July 9 History Nunavut Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—July 9, 2014:  Totally a complete black hole for holidays even for someone as creative as the Alaskanpoet, but hope you enjoy  the factoids and quote from Andy Warhol.
           1. Nunavut Day —celebrating the creation of Canada’s newest territory Nunavut located in the Arctic Archipelago; today is your day if there to celebrate by eating a musk ox burger.
           2. This Is Why We Fight Day—commemorating George Washington’s order given on this day in 1776 to have the Declaration of Independence read aloud to the troops of the Continental Army at New York.
           3. Shrimp On The Barbie Day—commemorating Queen Victoria’s granting Royal Assent to the creation of Australia thereby uniting several colonies on the Australian continent into one nation.
           4. National Sugar Cookie Day—another excuse to enjoy a tasty snack that is probably not good for you.
On this day in:
           a. 1896 the William Jennings Bryan, one of the great orators or all time, delivered his Cross of Gold Speech.
           b. 1962 Andy Warhol’s Campbell Soup Exhibit was exhibited at the Ferus Gallery in Los Angeles.
           c. 1981 the video game Donkey Kong was released by Nintendo.
A new perspective on art:  “I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want.”  Andy Warhol Amen to that!
