July 8 History National Chocolate With Almonds Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—July 8, 2014:  Totally miserable day on the holiday front but hope you enjoy the factoids and quotes from Ronald Reagan and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher.
           1. SCUD Day —honoring not those Russian missiles used by Iraq in the first Gulf War but rather a plea to Savor the Comic Unplug the Drama—humor is always the best weapon in dealing with issues in life.
           2. Video Games Day—given the rise in obesity among our kids, this is a holiday that should not be celebrated—not much exercise in playing video games.
           3. National Chocolates With Almonds Day—great treat for chocoholics to enjoy with the added boost of protein.
On this day in:
           a. 1889 the first edition of the Wall Street Journal was published.
           b. 1932 in a how low can it go moment, the Dow Jones reached its lowest level during the Great Depression, 41.22.
           c. 2011 in an end of an era moment, the Space Shuttle Atlantis rockets off into space for the last mission of the U.S. Space Shuttle program, relegating the U.S. to the role of hitchhikers on Russian space craft to get into space—sad commentary.
Two views on the Space Shuttle: “The fourth landing of the Columbia is the historical equivalent of the driving of the golden spike which completed the first transcontinental railroad. It marks our entrance into a new era.” — President Ronald Reagan, regarding the final test flight of the Space Shuttle, STS-4, July 4, 1982
And as we know now, and as I pointed out many times, the great plume of fire at the bottom of the Space Shuttle is actually dollar bills burning, and the most efficient method of destroying American dollar bills as has ever been devised by man. — Representative Dana Rohrabacher, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, during fiscal year 1998 NASA authorization hearings, 4 March 1997.
