July 2 History National Anisette Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—July 2, 2014:  Tough loss for Team U.S.A. against Belgium—the goalie for the U.S. was unbelievable.  Tough day for holidays also but hope you enjoy along with the factoids and a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr. waiting for a Nightcap to end your day.
            1. World UFO Day—celebrating and hoping that we are not alone and if not that those life forms out there have better answers that we mere humans seem to struggle to find.
            2. Siddhartha Day—commemorating the birthday of that great German writer and poet and winner of the 1946 Goethe Prize, Hermann Hesse on this day in 1877.
           3. Poster Child for Disease Run Wild Day—marking the birthday of a beautiful actress but with a slew of drug and alcohol related issues--Lindsay Lohan.
           4. National Anisette Day—celebrating that great anise flavored liqueur and essential ingredient in the Nightcap.
On this day in:
           a. 1937 Amelia Earhart and her navigator Fred Noonan were last seen trying to circumnavigate the Pacific (photos of her plane were released last night suggesting she may have landed on a Pacific Island as opposed to crashing into the ocean).
           b. 1962 the first Wal-Mart store was opened in Rogers, Arkansas.
           c. 1964 Lyndon Baines Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlawing segregation in public facilities.
Why we all need to come together to sail this great Ship of State: “We may have come from different ships but we are all in the same boat now.” Martin Luther King, Jr. Truer words never spoken before!
