Ridley's
Believe It Or Not—July 7, 2014: Trust all are fired up after a
great 4th of July weekend and will enjoy these holidays of meager note, factoids and a quote from Roy Blount,
Jr.
1. Global Forgiveness
Day —first
celebrated in Vancouver, British Columbia in 1994 and now worldwide.
2. National
Macaroni Day—another great pasta to enjoy with cheese.
3. National Strawberry
Sundae Day—what better way to celebrate the end of the 4th of
July weekend than with a cool sundae topped with strawberries and nuts.
4. Tell The Truth
Day—hoping that for at least one day in the year we, especially politicians
can tell the truth—maybe a hopeless dream given what comes out of the White
House.
5. Celebrate
The Star Day—honoring not those millions of celestial bodies or the
celebrities we mere mortals are in awe of but the birth on this day in 1940 of Ringo
Starr.
On this
day in:
a. 1928 to the delight of sandwich
lovers, sliced bread was first sold in the United States by the Chillicothe Banking
Company in Chillicothe, Missouri.
b. 1954 Elvis
Presley made his radio debut when WHBQ Memphis played his first recording for
Sun Records, "That's All
Right."
c. 1958 to the delight of the
residents of the Great Land, President Eisenhower signed into law the Alaska Statehood
Act.
As
you ponder your sandwich: “Eaters of Wonder
Bread/Must be underbred./So little to eat./Where's the wheat? “ Roy Blount, Jr.,
noted American author and humorist.
