Fourth of July. Meager day for holidays but hope you enjoy these along with the factoids and a quote from Bernard

1. Alred Not All Blue Day—celebrating or
better yet bemoaning the birthday of Gloria Alred , a lawyer not red but blue
to her inner most core and the nightmare of anyone opposing her in a divorce
proceeding.
2. 53 Day—bemoaning
the death on this day in 1993 of one of the most intimidating pitchers for the
Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers, Don Drysdale #53, forever memorialized by
Robert Kennedy’s congratulating his record scoreless innings streak at his
victory celebration of his win in the California primary in 1968 at the
Ambassador Hotel moments before he was assassinated by Sirhan Sirhan.
3. Upwind
Day—aka National Eat Beans Day;
always good to be upwind of someone who is celebrating this holiday with
fervor.
4. National
Chocolate Wafer Day—celebrating a great snack especially when eaten with
some ice cream.
On this
day in:
a. 1839 the first state normal school
(teacher’s college) was opened in the United States at Lexington, Massachusetts
with three students.
b. 1884 Dow Jones and Company
published its first stock average (which is at record levels today).
c. 1886 the New York Tribune became the first newspaper to use the
linotype machine replacing typesetting by hand.
