Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History- Febraury 8, 2014 Nirvana Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--February 8, 2014:  Before you stress out over a gift for your Valentine (a customized poem by the Alaskanpoet is always the best choice--are you reading this?), take a deep breath, a quick meditation and with a sense of Nirvana so achieved and topped off with a good laugh,  enjoy for today these few holidays:
             1.
Nirvana Day--observed by Buddhists to celebrate the day Gautama Buddha achieved Parinirvana or complete enlightenment upon the death of his physical body freeing him from all physical pain.

            2. Ice Worm Day--celebrated only in Cordova, Alaska somewhat akin to Seward's Polar Bear Jump Off earlier in the year and duly noted only here; but in Cordova jumping off into the water at 42 degrees with an air temperature of 19 degrees into the fog, the wise celebrants put on their survival suits first--could be something to add to your "Bucket List".
             3. Boy Scout Anniversary Day--celebrating the founding of the Boys Scouts of America  104 years ago today--best observed by following a Scout's motto to always be prepared and to help the elderly, especially those former rugby players with bad knees, cross the street.
             4. Laugh And Get Rich Day-- not sure where this came from but great concept, especially when laughing with and not at--beats the double opposite--Bitch And Get Poor Day.
On this day in:
             a. 1915 D.W. Griffiths highly controversial film "Birth of a Nation" premiered in Los Angeles.
             b. 1960 the first eight brass stars were embedded on Hollywood's Walk of Fame.
             c.  1996 the massive Internet digital photographic collaboration involving thousands of photographers around the world "24 Hours in Cyberspace" took place.
Simple words to live by: “If it is not truthful and not helpful, don't say it.
If it is truthful and not helpful, don't say it.
If it is not truthful yet helpful, don't say it.
If it is truthful and helpful, wait for the right time.” Gautama Buddha
