Believe It Or Not--February 11, 2014:
Before you stress out over a gift for your Valentine (a customized
poem by the Alaskanpoet is always the best choice--are you reading this as you
are almost out time ?), take a deep breath and watch E.T.,
Invasion of the Body Snatchers and the Day the Earth Stood Still after you enjoy for today these factoids,
quote and a few hard to find holidays:
1. Satisfied Staying Single Day--celebrating in the shadow of the 800 pound heart shaped gorilla the joy of being single and almost sacrilegeoulsly enjoying the money saved by not spending funds on V-Day gifts--not supported by Zales or Match.com.

2. World Day of the Sick--started in 1992 by Pope John Paul II to offer prayers for
the sick and those suffering from illness.
3. Extraterrestrial
Visitor Day/Extraterrestrial Culture Day--celebrated only in Roswell, New Mexico and not D.C. as
any E.T visiting there, after watching our Congress and President act, would
beat a path back to home galaxy are triple warp speed, sadly not taking some of
our politicians with him. 4. Don't Cry Over Spilt Milk Day--not brought to you by the producers of Cats but to remind us not to let the little things get you down, like loss of health insurance or doctor.
On this day in:
a. 1812 Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts "gerrymanders" a district for the first time, spawning large numbers of immitators over the years, driven by the need to preserve legistlative seats at all costs.
b. 1916 Emma Goldman, an anarchist was arrested for distributing information about birth control.
c. 1977 off the coast of Nova Scotia, the largest ever crustacean weighing 45 pounds and well over 100 years old was caught, making the 25 pound lobster "Victor" star attraction at the Seaside, Oregon Aquarium look like a lobster pigmy. Can you imagine the amount of cholesterol one would consume eating that amount of lobster?
Here's a sobering thought on Extraterrestrial Visitor Day as you are bemoaning your spilt milk: “The only thing that scares me more than space aliens is the idea that there aren't any space aliens. We can't be the best that creation has to offer. I pray we're not all there is. If so, we're in big trouble.” Ellen Degeneres, noted comedian and talk show host. She is definitely right on point re the quality of what we have in D.C.
