Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History-February 7, 2014 Wear Red Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--February 7, 2014:  Before you stress out over a gift for your Valentine (a customized poem by the Alaskanpoet is always the best choice), take a deep breath, pick out your red wardrobe and distress after checking your blood pressure enjoy for today these few holidays:
             1.
Wear Red Day--observed not to encourage men and women to vote Republican but to create awareness over heart attacks that are killing women almost as frequently as men.

             2. Send A Card To A Friend Day--non valentines like cards this time of year and the retailers could use the space to put in more Valentine’s Day Cards.
             3. Independence Day--celebrating in Grenada independence from England and with that independence becoming the only former English colony other than Canada in the War of 1812 to be invaded and conquered less than 10 years after at the direction of President Reagan whose day we celebrated yesterday.
             4. Give Kids A Smile Day-- celebrating not smiling at your kids (always a great idea) but making sure they have the dental work to be able to smile--fooled me.
On this day in:
             a. 1964 the Beatles arrived in New York, appearing on the Ed Sullivan Show two days later and beginning the Beatles' Invasion.
              b. 1971 in fulfillment of the adage "better late than never," Swiss men approved women's suffrage.
              c. 1984 U.S. Shuttle Astronaut Bruce McCandless makes the first untethered space walk in space.
Why wear red today: "Most women do not realize that heart disease is the #1 killer of women." Monica Potter, noted American actress who lost her father to cardiovascular disease in 2004.
