Ridley's Believe It Or Not--This Day In History-February 2, 2014-Groundhog Day Super Bowl Sundayl

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--February 2, 2014:  On Super Bowl Sunday and Groundhog Day (for our fellow citizens in the continual stream of Arctic Vortexes hope no shadow seen by Phil), I  found these traditional and unique holidays to observe:
             1.
Marmot Day--celebrated in Alaska, supplanting Groundhog Day (Alaskans are an "independent" lot--watch the Deadliest Catch to get a drift or imagine living north of Fairbanks and not seeing the Sun for over 80 days in the winter).
             2. Second Day of Black History Month
            3. National Sled Dog Day--celebrating the sled dog heroes of the run to Nome in 1925 to save the children from diphtheria, memorialized in the Iditarod Race and a certain poem  in honor of a Malamute London at www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com
             4.  National Wetlands Day--great concept observe while we still have them before lost to development or this year in California drought.
              5. Popcorn Day--my favorite except for the kernels stuck in your gums.
On this day in:
             a. 1935 Leonarde Keeler tested the first polygraph machine (lie detector) unfortunately not on a sitting member of Congress.
             b. 1990 F.W. De Klerk announced the unbanning of the African National Congress and his promise to free Nelson Mandela.
             c. 2000 first digital cinema project in Europe (Paris) by Phillipe Binant using the DLP CINEMA technology developed by Texas Instruments bringing higher quality pictures to the screen and higher popcorn prices to pay for it.
Since in the Year of Horse my team, the Broncos, should win and the nation may not be ready for another Sherman post game excitement, two quotes to enjoy: "The truth is the Super Bowl long ago became more than just a football game. It's part of our culture like turkey at Thanksgiving and lights at Christmas, and like those holidays beyond their meaning, a factor in our economy.”  Bob Schieffer, noted CBS journalist. From the Super Bowl equivalent of George Zimmer of Men's Warehouse, "We are going to win the Super Bowl. I guarantee it." Joe Namath, quarterback of the underdog New York Jets before Super Bowl III.
Enjoy today's Super Bowl XLVIII which may have dodged another major Arctic Vortex en route by a few hours which will make the Chili Peppers in their trademark shirtless attire in good spirits. Please enjoy the 140 character poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and join almost 140 growing followers and please follow me) and follow my blogs. Always good, incisive and entertaining poems on my blogs--click on links below. www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com for an original poem to honor Cory Remsburg, and original poem honor Martin Luther King, Jr. and an original in poem honoring a 17 year young Progeria victim who died on the eve of becoming an honorary captain for the Patriots  (have tissues handy). Just posted for your enjoyment on www.alaskanpoetcommentary.blogspot.com poems on Groundhog Day;  the danger of walking on L.A. sidewalks; the outrage of a Utah elementary school snatching lunches from students who had negative balances in their lunch accounts;  St. Patrick and the 400 snakes found in Santa Ana; the growing Imperial Presidency; the promotion of Charlene Lamb, the woman in charge of no security at Benghazi; and the retirement of Henry Waxman after 40 years in the U.S. Congress.
