July 4 History Independence Day

       1. International Cherry Pit Spitting Contest Day—celebrating a great way to use the inedible portion of a favorite fruit; the record is over 60 feet.

      2. National Country Music Day—as polls indicate patriotism in America is at an all time low, probably due to the PC juries in the schools, entertainment media and the news, appropriate to celebrate a music medium that is symbolic of patriotism.

         4. National Barbecue Day—a great way to celebrate today—fire up the barbecue, forget about the carbon foot print and grill some steaks, fish, franks and corn and enjoy our independence.

        5.  God Doesn’t Make Junk Though Companies May Issue It—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1946 of Michael Milken who made millions in the junk bond market but after serving two years in prison for fraud went on to found the Milken Foundation and donate millions for medical research.

On this day in:                                           

       a. 1776 the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence provoking the Revolutionary War.

       b. 1826 former presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams died.

       c. 1831 Francis  Smith wrote My Country Tis of Thee for Boston’s Fourth of July celebration.   

       d. 1966 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Freedom of Information Act which although fought tooth and nail by politicians has exposed more corruption, dishonesty and deception by our government Red and Blue than one could ever imagine.
       e. 2009 after 8 years of closure following the 911 attacks, the crown of the Statute of Liberty was reopened to the public.

Reflections from the man whose signature stands out on the Declaration of Independence like no other: "We must be unanimous; there must be no pulling different ways; we must hang together."  John Hancock As we face more dangers than ever imagined with a government in Washington that seems more dysfunctional than ever, words to live by after 239 years of their issuance.
