b. 1866 the first permanent transatlantic telegraph cable was completed between Valeria Island, Ireland and Heart’s Content, Newfoundland.
c. 1890 Vincent Van Gogh shot himself and died two days later.
d. 1953 China, North Korea and the United States signed the Korean War Armistice, ending hostilities. South Korea refused to sign but agreed it would observe its terms.
e. 1995 the Korean War Veterans Memorial was dedicated in Washington, D.C.
