       1. International Tiger Day—celebrating since 2010 the need to protect and preserve the dwindling habitat of one of the great predators on the planet—the tiger.
       2. Rain Day (Waynesburg, PA)—celebrating in Waynesburg, PA since the early 1800s the fact that it almost every year rains on this day, although the string may be broken this year with only a 15% chance of raining today—definitely a holiday we need to celebrate today in drought suffering California.
       3. 1965 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1965 on a four week run in that position I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction) by the Rolling Stones.  Here is a link to the Rolling Stones performing I Can’t Get No (Satisfaction): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgYblVYEldY
      4. National Chicken Wings Day—celebrating a great American culinary classic which Americans consume to the tune of almost 30 billion a year—this highly evolved omnivore prefers the full wings at Mutt Lynch’s in Newport Beach.
      5. Who Needs A Voice To Be A Symbol Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1905 of one of the very popular and major sex symbols of the 20s, Clara Bow who appeared in 46 silent films and 11 talkies.
On this day in:
       a. 1858 Japan and the U.S. signed the Harris Treaty opening up five treaty ports to American shipping and trading interests and providing that Americans would be tried by American consular courts.
       b. 1899 the first Hague Convention, providing for the standards to be observed by nations at war such as banning the execution of soldiers who had surrendered and the protection of hospital ships, was signed.
       c. 1981 over 700 million viewers watched the televised wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer.
       d. 1987 British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and French President Francois Mitterand signed an agreement providing for the construction of a tunnel under the English Channel.
       e. 1996 the child protection provisions of the Communications Decency Act were struck down by a federal appeals court.
Reflections on tigers: " An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger.” Confucius How right he was, especially when one looks at the actions of the IRS under the Obama administration.
