       1. System Administrator Appreciation Day—celebrating since 2000 a day to promote recognition of the contribution of one’s IT professionals that keep one’s computer and peripherals running properly and without crashes.

      4. Jump for Jelly Beans Day—celebrating among Ronald Reagan’s many contributions to this nation, his love of jelly beans and the huge jar of assorted jelly beans he kept in the Oval Office.

Maverick Sharks Can Be Billionaires Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1958 of Mark Cuban, a very successful entrepreneur who after selling Broadcast.com to Yahoo for almost $6 billion invested in a variety of successful startups on the Shark Club and with Ross Perot purchased the Dallas Mavericks.

On this day in:                                           

       a. 1703 Daniel Defoe author of Robinson Crusoe and over 500 books, journals and pamphlets was placed in a pillory but according to legend and perhaps since he was also a poet was not pelted with noxious objects but rather flowers and then toasted to his health.  

       b. 1790 the first U.S. patent was issued to Samuel Hopkins for a potash process.

       c. 1970 in a day known as Black Tot Day, the Royal Navy ended its centuries old tradition of a daily rum ration for its sailors.   

       d. 1990 Nolan Ryan became the 20^th pitcher to win 300 games.   

       e. 1991 in a no more complaints about woman drivers day, the U.S. Senate voted in favor of allowing women to fly combat missions.
