       1. Kargil Vijay Diwas (India)--celebrated in India since 1999 commemorating the victory by Indian forces against Pakistan on this day in 1999.

       a. 1908 Charles Bonaparte, the Attorney General of the United States, ordered the immediate staffing of the Office of Examiner, the precursor of the FBI.   

       b. 1936 in one of his few official acts before abdication King Edward VIII unveiled the Canadian National Vimy Memorial.

       c. 1945 the heavy cruiser the USS Indianapolis delivered the parts to assemble the atomic bomb to Tinian Island which was dropped on Hiroshima. She was later sunk by a Japanese submarine enroute from Tinian to Manila. 

       d. 1948 President Harry S. Truman signed Executive Order 9981 desegregating the U.S. Military. 

       e. 1990 The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 was signed into law by President Bush.
