       1. International Friendship Day—celebrating since 1958 a day to promote friendship in nations around the world. To have a friend one needs to learn how to be a friend.                                                    

       2. National Paperback Day—celebrating the publication by Penquin Books of its first paperback book on this day in 1935; given the rise of NOOKS, Kindels and iPads with the ability to read e-books may be a holiday of diminishing followers.       4. National Cheesecake Day—celebrating a great American desert classic which packs a lot of calories.

      5. There Is Ford In Your Future Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1863 of the man who founded the Ford Motor Company and established the first modern assembly line to manufacture automobiles and in so doing was able to raise wages to an unheard level of $5.00 a day.

On this day in:                                           

       a. 1733 the first Masonic Grand Lodge in the American Colonies was established in Massachusetts.  

       b. 1916 the Black Tom Island Munitions Depot was sabotaged by German agents with explosions killing five and felt as far away as Philadelphia.

       c. 1930 at Montevideo, Uruguay, Uruguay won the first FIFA World Cup and probably the last free of bribes by host countries to FIFA. 

       d. 1975 Jimmy Hoffa disappeared from the parking lot of the Manchus Red Fox Restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan and was never seen again.    

       e. 2003 the last Volkswagen Bug rolled off an assembly line in Mexico.
