Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History-April 14, 2014 Children with Alopecia Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--April 14, 2014To complement your pecan pie after watching Bubba Watson win his second Masters in three years yesterday, I found these unknown holidays worthy of mention or celebrating in a culinary fashion to go with the factoids and quote to enjoy before you once again frantically are trying to assemble your documents in order to have your tax return prepared and filed.
              1. Black Day (South Korea)—celebrated by those so unfortunate as to not receive a Valentine’s Day card and marked by eating noodles and black bean sauce.
              2. Children with Alopecia Day—honoring those children going bald due to the autoimmune disease alopecia areata and trying to install acceptance that it is okay to be bald.
              3. National Pecan Day—celebrating a tasty nut that is a winner in deserts such as pecan pie.
              4. Pan American Day—celebrating the formation of the Organization of American States and first observed on this date in 1931.
              5. Be Kind to Your CPA Day—reminding you that your tax professional is probably tearing his hair out as tax day approaches and is totally stressed out and today is a good day to be understanding over the amount of tax returns he or she still has to prepare and that an extension to file is not the end of the world.
On this day in:
                a. 1828 Noah Webster copyrights his first edition of his dictionary—no library is complete without one.
                b. 1865 President Lincoln is shot in the head at the Ford Theater by John Wilkes Booth and Secretary of State is stabbed repeatedly at his home by one of Booth’s co-conspirators, William Powell and fortunately recovers to spearhead the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867.
                c. 1956 in Chicago, videotape was demonstrated for the first time.
