Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History April 15, 2014 World Art Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--April 15, 2014:  As you are locked up in your home office or waiting to see your CPA, I found these unknown holidays worthy of mention or celebrating in a culinary fashion to go with the factoids and quote to enjoy.
              1. Tax Day—a day to wear black arm bands in mourning as Uncle Sam reaches deep into your pocket and to know extension is not a bad word. If filing today, hope you observed Be Kind to Your CPA Day on the 14th.
              2. World Art Day—honoring the fine arts throughout the planet and first observed on April 15, 2012; also the birthday of one of the great Renaissance men of the planet—Leonardo da Vinci
              3. Jackie Robinson Day—honoring Jackie Robinson’s debut as the first black baseball player in major league history on April 15, 1947 with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
              4. National Library Workers Day—celebrating the hard work and great service of our librarians and a great excuse, although not needed, to go to the library and check out a CD or latest best seller.
              5. National Spiral Glazed Ham Day—nothing like a glazed ham, already sliced, but why would one celebrate the day with a ham and then face another one this Sunday for  Easter.
 On this day in:
                a. 1755 Samuel Johnson published one of the most influential dictionaries A Dictionary of the English Language after nine years of labor.
                b. 1955 MacDonald’s dated its establishment as the restaurant chain that grew to be the largest in the world when Ray Kroc purchased a franchise site in Des Plaines, Illinois.
                c. 2013 in Boston two bombs exploded near the finish line of the 117th Boston Marathon, killing three people and injuring 264—In yet another example of the American spirit the 118th will be run on April 21, 2014--Boston Strong!
Taxpayers, thy name is procrastinator:  A survey shows Americans find filing their taxes slightly more bearable than going to a funeral – which could explain why thousands put off doing their returns until the last minute.” -Nirvi Shah, Miami Herald   Unfortunately Tax Day occurs every year and a funeral but once.
