Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History April 2, 2014 World Autism Awareness Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--April 2, 2014:  After listening to the news it seems that April 2, 2014 is a Groundhog's Day replay of April Fools' Day. Two things remain certain:  Ridley's Believe It Or Not can be relied upon and secondly and most importantly the score was correctly stated as the Stanford Cardinal women after trailing North Carolina came back to win and will be in the Final Four, unfortunately against UConn in the semis. Found these great holidays to go with the factoids and quote.
              1.  World Autism Awareness Day--observed since 1989 to create awareness of the problems of autism which seems to be increasing and takes a tremendous toll on families and victims.
              2.  Malvinas Day--observed in Argentina, honoring the almost 700 Argentines who lost their lives in Argentina’s ill-fated Falkands War launched on April 2, 1982 against Great Britain who although outnumbered in the air and on the ground and 8,000 miles away from home managed to land an outnumbered invasion force and force the Argentines to ultimately surrender--It was another "finest hour" for the Iron Lady and our English cousins.
              3. Peanut butter and Jelly Sandwich Day--another great holiday to sink your teeth into, unless perchance you are allergic to peanuts.
              3. International Children's Book Day--celebrating that very lasting and rewarding pleasure of watching a child beginning reading or an adult with child on lap reading the child--priceless!
On this day in:
               a. 1902 in Los Angeles the Electric Theater, the first full-time public movie theater is opened.
               b. 1973 the first computerized legal search service Lexis/Nexis commenced operations.
               c. 1980 President Jimmy Carter signed into law the Crude Oil Windfall Profits Tax which since it was not levied on imported oil only domestic, markedly increased our dependence on foreign oil imports and did not encourage domestic exploration.
On this day, a day to redefine a disability: “Think of it: a disability is usually defined in terms of what is missing. … But autism … is as much about what is abundant as what is missing, an over-expression of the very traits that make our species unique.” Paul Collins, noted American writer and parent of an autistic child and author of Not Even Wrong: Adventures in Autism.
