Ridley's Believe It Or Not-this Day In History-April 10, 2014-Siblings Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--April 10, 2014Found these unknown holidays worthy of mention or celebrating in a culinary fashion to go with the factoids and quote to enjoy.  Hopefully, the Malaysian jet’s black box is found today, we as a nation have a day free of the chaos we witnessed at Murrysville, PA yesterday, and those wounded severely and in the hospital recover without lasting injuries.
              1. Siblings Day—celebrated since 1999 to honor siblings with 45 state governors now issuing proclamations in favor of the day; brothers and sisters are truly precious but we as only children can only wonder when the only children have their day of recognition..
              2. National Alcohol Screening Day—creating awareness to the excessive drinking of many of our college students in amounts that place them and others at risk—look only to the mini-riot at Deltopia at UCSB with stabbings and over 100 arrests and the mini celebration riots after UConn won both Men’s and Women’s National Championships to appreciate the need for this day.
              3. Salvation Army Founder’s Day—celebrating the birthday of the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, on April 10, 1829. Can you imagine a Christmas devoid to the members of the S.A. ringing bells over their collection pots for the unfortunate?
              4. National Cinnamon Crescent Day--another caloric holiday to sink your teeth into and tantalize your sense of smell.
On this day in:
                a. 1866 to the barks of joy everywhere the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was established in New York City by William Bergh.
                b. 1925 The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald was published.
                c. 1953 Warner Brothers premiered the first 3-D movie by a major studio—House of Wax.
A toast of the elixir of youth to all those with siblings: “To the outside world we all grow old. But not to brothers and sisters. We know each other as we always were. We know each other's hearts. We share private family jokes. We remember family feuds and secrets, family griefs and joys. We live outside the touch of time.” Clara Ortega
