Ridley's Believe It Or Not-This Day In History-April 13, 2014 National Peach Cobbler Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not--April 13, 2014To complement Palm Sunday, I found these unknown holidays worthy of mention or celebrating in a culinary fashion to go with the factoids and quote to enjoy as you may be watch the final round of the Masters and enjoying a peach cobbler.
              1. Thomas Jefferson’s Birthday—celebrating the birthday of our third President on April 13, 1743—truly one of the great Presidents of this nation, author of the Declaration of Independence and the driving force behind the Louisiana Purchase.
1.                    2. National Scrabble Day—commemorating the birth of the Alfred Butts, designer of the extremely popular game on April 13, 1899 who while as an out-of-work architect designed the game in 1938.  If you ever have all the tiles and want to spell the word “scrabble” and are challenged, it means to “scratch or grope around with one's fingers to find, collect, or hold onto something.”
2.                    3. National Peach Cobbler Day—celebrating a tasty treat that should be on the top of everyone’s favorite list.
3.      On this day in:
                a. 1902 James C.  Penny opened his first store in Kemmerer, Wyoming; 114 years later the company is still a major retailer but struggling to stay alive.
                b. 1943 the Jefferson Memorial was opened in Washington, D.C.
                c. 1976 the U.S. reintroduced the Jefferson Two Dollar Bill.
Wise thoughts as we enjoy Palm Sunday and approach Passover. Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.” Thomas Jefferson
