         1. International Anti-Corruption Day—commemorating since 2003 by the UN efforts to ban corruption by public officials in the form of kick backs and bribes by companies in order to do business with governments and private companies.

     a.  1793 Noah Webster started New York City’s first daily newspaper, the American Minerva, which went out of business in 1904.   
         b. 1851 the first YMCA in North America opened in Montreal, Quebec.
         c. 1875 the Massachusetts Rifle Association, “America’s Oldest Active Gun Club” was founded.                                                          
         d. 1935 the first Heisman Trophy was awarded by the New York Athletic Club to halfback Jay Berwanger of the University of Chicago; hopefully this Saturday it will be awarded to Christian McCaffrey of Stanford University who gained more all purpose yards than any player in college football history.         
       e. 2008 the Democratic governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich was arrested for attempting to sell the Senate seat vacated by Barack Obama; this corrupt politician is now serving 14 years in prison.
