1. Boston Tea Party Day—celebrating the iconic spark that on December 16, 1773 lit the flame of the American Revolutionary War, the Boston Tea Party when a band of colonists many disguised as Indians boarded an East Indian Company and dumped its entire load of tea into Boston Harbor in protest to the Tea Act of 1773 levying a tax on tea by the British Parliament resulting in the protest of “No taxation without representation.”
2. Las Posadas Day—celebrated for nine days in Mexico, Southwest United States and Latin America memorializing the nine day search of Mary and Joseph for a place to stay to give birth to Jesus—very festive with a different house playing the role on an inn where neighbors gather as Mary and Joseph enter followed by food, piñatas for the kids and a Nativity Scene around which the celebrants pray.

4. National Chocolate Anything Covered Day—celebrating what has to be a chocoholics most favored holiday.
5. Cancer Can Trump Laughter—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1961 of stand up comedian Bill Hicks who is considered by many to be one of the best stand up comedians of all time but who died way too soon of pancreatic cancer at the age of 32.
On this day in:
a. 1811 the first two of four massive earthquakes in the 7.5-7.9 range known as the New Madrid, Missouri earthquakes occurred. The earthquakes were and largest earthquakes ever in the contiguous United States east of the Rockies and were felt over an area of 50,000 square miles compare to the San Francisco where the area impacted was only 6,000 square miles.
b. 1907 in a show of speak softly but carry a big stick, the Great White Fleet began its circumnavigation of the world.
c. 1947 William Shockley, John Bardeen, and Walter Brattain built the first practical point-contact transistor.
d. 1978 Cleveland, Ohio became the first American city since the Great
Depression to default on its financial obligations.
e. 1995 the term “Euro” was adopted for the European currency. Reflections on earthquakes:“ We still carry this old caveman-imprint idea that we're small, nature's big, and it's everything we can manage to hang on and survive. When big geophysical events happen - a huge earthquake, tsunami, or volcanic eruption - we're reminded of that.” Jame Balog, noted American photographer who is famous for his photographic studies of climate change.
