     1. International Mountain Day—commemorating another student freedom day where students take a day off from school to go to the mountains although hard to understand why the day would be observed in the winter when there is a likelihood of snow or rain.                             
      2. Ralph Carr Day—celebrating in Colorado the birthday on this day in1887 of Ralph Carr, the governor of Colorado who was one of the few politicians who argued against the relocation of Japanese-Americans from their homes on the West Coast.

         4. National Ring Noodle  Day—celebrating a tasty dish, kugel, made in a ring mold that that has been enjoyed since the 13th Century—egg noodles, cottage cheese, raisins and sugar baked in the oven for 90 minutes and then enjoyed.
        5. Vixen Landing—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1940 of Donna Mills, noted TV actress who played the scheming vixen Abby Fairgate on the long running soap, Knot’s Landing.
On this day in:  
       a. 1934 Bill Wilson, the co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous took his last drink and enters rehab for the last time. 
         b. 1941 in a move that would guarantee that Italy and Germany would lose WWII Germany and Italy declared war on the United States after the U.S. had declared war on the Empire of Japan three days earlier.
         c. 1946 UNICEF was founded to aid children around the world fight disease and the effects of poverty.                                                          
       d. 1972 Apollo 17 became the sixth and last manned spacecraft to land on the surface of the Moon.         
     e. 2014 the City of Detroit successfully emerged from the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history.                                   
Reflections on the work done by UNICEF: “I can testify to what UNICEF means to children because I was among those who received food and medical relief right after World War II.” Audrey Hepburn noted British actress and humanitarian who as a teenage in World War II lived in German occupied Arnhem and worked in the Dutch Underground as a courier.
