Grant issued General Order 11 requiring Jews to be expelled from parts of Mississippi, Kentucky, and Tennessee due to Grant’s belief that Jews were involved in the black market of Southern cotton. Fortunately, another stain on our tolerance history under pressure from Lincoln was wiped clean and the Order rescinded on January 17, 1863.
b. 1892 the first issue of Vogue was issued.

Reflections on an observation true when made and true over a hundred years later:“Cuba ought to be free and independent, and the government should be turned over to the Cuban people.” William McKinley, former president during the Spanish American War. He was then speaking about Spain, but the comment has great validity when applied to the dictatorial communist regime of the Castros which has ruled with an iron repressive fist for almost 55 years.
