Not For August 4, 2018 Therese Okoumouhe of scale the pedestal
of the Statute of Liberty infamy was charged with trespassing after appearing
in court and held a profanity laced ranting press conference outside the
courtroom; the new face of the Democratic Party Ocasio-Cortez is in L.A. fund
raising but interestingly not approaching Hollywood’s political elites; Meghan
Markle had a wardrobe malfunction attending a wedding of Prince Harry’s good
friend and treated fellow attendees to a view of her black lace bra; Trump will
be in Ohio at a rally for a House Republican candidate in a special election
(bad news if in this Republican district a Blue ekes out a victory; Trump has strayed
off message which is the economy’s success by attacking the Koch Brothers (bad
idea and dilutes the message of economic success); in Portland, Oregon Patriot
Prayer, a right wing group, will be holding a rally which Antifa has vowed to
disrupt (another sign of the divisive times); on the NAFTA front Canada is
reporting that it is very keen to an agreement modifying some of its provisions
wrapped up shortly; through August 3,
2018 1748 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of
whom 281 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this
the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to
the slaughter of mostly people of color by mostly people of color?).

1. Coast Guard Day—celebrating the foundation of the
U.S. Coast Guard on this day in 1790 when Congress authorized the construction
of 10 revenue cutters to enforce U.S. tariffs and customs duties.
2. National Disc Golf Day—created
in July of 2016 to be observed on the first Saturday in August; the sport uses
discs similar to Frisbees and instead of holes uses baskets and has rules
similar to golf like out of bounds. For those on a budget much less expensive
than traditional golf as you need almost no equipment and one does not usually
lose one’s discs.
3. 1955 Number One Song— the number one song in 1955 on
a run of 8 weeks in that position was “Rock Around the Clock” by Bill Haley

4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “mongery”
which means to market or traffic especially in discreditable ways or manners
which describes politicians to a tee when trying to win votes with negative
attack ads.
5. 8 Years Stuck In Neutral—celebrating
or bemoaning depending on your political point of view of former president
Barack Obama under whose leadership the American economy stagnated with millions
of Americans added to the food stamp roles and whose legacy has largely overturned
by President Trump.

a. 1956 “Hound Dog” by Elvis Presley was released,
launching him into rock star status.
b. 1964
U.S. destroyers USS Maddox and USS Turner Joy reported that they were
under attack by North Vietnamese PT boats which reports were more likely than
not false and no attack had occurred as there were no North Vietnamese ships in
the area.
c. 1977
President Jimmy Carter signed legislation creating the U.S. Department of
Energy.
d. 1987
the FCC rescinded its “Fairness Doctrine” which required radio and TV stations
to discuss controversial issues fairly.
e. 1993 a
federal judge sentenced LAPD officers Stacey Koon and Laurence Powell to 30
months of prison for violating Rodney King’s civil rights.
