Ridley’s Believe It Or
Not For August 3, 2018 the new head of the VA has warned
that Trump’s signature program of allowing veterans to go to private physicians
is doomed to failure due to the practice of the VA not paying private
physicians (why this stiffing practice cannot be rectified is a mystery) the man suspected of killing former
president George H.W. Bush’s cardiologist was cornered by police and committed
suicide; on the good Samaritan front an ex corrections officer and a member of
the Coast Guard subdued an unruly passenger on a Delta Airlines flight who was
threatening to take the plane down; the Carr Fire still out of control has spawned
a tornado of destruction as fire crews struggle to contain the blaze; on the
legal public employee union front Washington Public Unions have been sued due
to their reluctance to follow the Janus decision by SCOTUS banning forcing
employees to join public unions; a meteor struck the Earth near the Thule Ari
Force Base in Greenland and detonated with a force of 2.1 kilotons of explosives;
Omarosa, former director of communications for the Trump Administration is back
in the news with a new book slamming Trump and attacking his mental state of
affairs; Florida is being hit with a red algae bloom which has devastated
marine life and tourism; through August
2, 2018 1728 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color,
of whom 278 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is
this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind
eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color?).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the Crew
Cuts, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact
that you do not molochize your values, and a relevant quote from Karlie Kloss
on doing a runway, secure in the knowledge that if you
want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations,
birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can
provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the
event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Beer Day—created in Santa Cruz by Jesse Avshalomov
in 2007 to celebrate drinking and making of beer.
2. Airplane Crop-duster Day—celebrating
the pilots who spray fields with pesticides and insecticides to protect our
food crops.
3. 1949 Number One Song— the number one song in 1954 on
a run of 7 weeks in that position was “Sh-Boom” by the Crew Cuts. Here
is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q9G0-4TWwew
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “molochize”
which means to sacrifice which when it comes to promises made to get elected
politicians quickly molochize upon reaching office.
5. It’s No Secret—celebrating the birth on this day in
1992 on super model Karlie Kloss who at 6’1” certainly stands out and dominates
the cover of Vogue and the runways of
Victoria Secret.
On
this day in:
a. 1921
Major League Baseball Commissioner Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis confirm the
banning of the 8 Chicago Black Sox the day after they were acquitted by a jury
of conspiring to fix the World Series.
b. 1946
Santa Claus Land, the world’s first themed park, opened in Santa Claus,
Indiana.
c. 1972
the U.S. Senate ratified the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty.
d. 1977 Tandy
Corporation announced the TRS-80, the first mass produced personal computer.
e. 2004
the pedestal of the Statute of liberty reopened after being closed due to the
attacks on 9/11.
Reflections on a
runway:” I still get butterflies when I'm doing a
runway show. The music starts, you're wearing these gorgeous clothes and your
nervous about your high heels, if your shoes are going to break, if your going
to slip or do something wrong.” Karlie Kloss. In addition to being a real beauty
she is in the forefront of teaching girls how to write code.
