1. World Diabetes Day—creating an awareness of a growing problem especially in the U.S. where increasing obesity is creating a wave of Type II diabetes and an increasing amount of amputations and blindness.
2. Children’s Day (India)—observed on Nehru’s birthday and honoring the over 400 million children in India, many of whom live in poverty and must go to work at a very early age to help support their families.
3. Hair Over The Eye Day--celebrating the birthday on this day in 1922 of Veronica Lake, the blonde bombshell actress who created a craze with her golden locks falling over one eye who unfortunately died too soon after struggling with mental illness and alcoholism.
4. Prince Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1948 of Prince Charles, a man who is the longest living heir apparent to the English throne in 300 years and if his mother has the genes of her mother will probably never become king, which would be great news for his oldest son.
5. National Spicy Guacamole Day—celebrating that most delicious way to serve avocadoes.

b. 1979 in response to the seizure of the American Embassy in Tehran, Jimmy Carter signed Executive Order 12170 freezing all Iranian assets in the U.S.
c. 2008 the first G-20 summit opened in Washington, D.C.
d. 2012 in a preview of what happened in 2014; Israel launched a major military operation against Hamas in Gaza.
