Ridley's Believe It Or Not June 3 History Mabo Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—June 3, 2014:  Slow day for holidays again; so slow I feel if I were reading them on The Gong Show, I would be gonged off the stage. Hope you enjoy them along with some hard boiled eggs, preferably pickled, along with a chocolate macaroon along with the factoids and quote.
            1. Chocolate Macaroon Day—celebrating a great tasty treat.
            2. National Egg Day—promoting the consumption of the incredible, edible egg.
            3. Chuck Barris Day—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1928 of Chuck Barris, game show producer for The Newlywed Game and The Dating Game and host of The Gong Show, a true classic as talent contestants were gonged into submission due sometimes the low quality of their acts.
            4. Mabo Day---celebrating in Australia  the successful efforts of an aborigine Eddie Mabo to have ended on this day in 1992 the doctrine of terra nullius, thereby enabling aborigines with the ability to reclaim land they had used for centuries prior to the arrival of English settlers and convicts.
On this day in:
            a. 1888 one of the all time classic poems Casey at the Bat was published by Ernest Lawrence Thayer in the San Francisco Examiner.
            b. 1989 China sends troops into Tiananmen Square to eject thousands of protestors demanding freedom from authoritarian rule.
            c. 2013 the trial of U.S. Army Pvt. Bradley Manning (now Chelsea Manning whose sex change operation we taxpayers are going to have to pay for while Veterans are dying due to delay in the V.A.) for leaking classified material to WikiLeaks began at Fort Meade and ended with his conviction and sentencing to 35 years shortly thereafter.
The lines between whistle blower and traitor are sometimes blurred: “WikiLeaks exposed the most dangerous lies of all, which are those that are told to us by elected governments.” Jemima Khan, English journalist and heiress and associate editor for the New Statesmen Given what we have seen coming out of Benghazi, the IRS and the VA, that statement has a lot of validity.
