Believe It Or Not—June 1, 2014: Slow day for
holidays again as we enter the month of June with in Southern California in the
morning the June Gloom, but hope you will
enjoy these holidays, along with a fresh baked hazelnut cake, found for today
along with the factoids and quote.
1. National Heimlich Maneuver Day—celebrating
since 1972 the maneuver developed by Henry Heimlich that has probably save
thousands from choking to death.
2. Say Something Nice Day—promoting a
holiday which by its name should be celebrated and observed every day of the
year—would make the world a much better place.
3. Stand For Children Day—promoting
since 1996 improvements in public education for all children.
4. National Hazel Nut Cake Day---celebrating
a tasty cake for those patient enough not to immediately eat these delicious
and healthy nuts aka the Alaskanpoet filberts.
On
this day in:
a. 1660 in a low point for religious tolerance, Mary Dyer is hanged for violating
the ban on Quakers in the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
b. 1967 the Beatles released Sgt. Pepper’s
Lonely Hearts Club Band.
c. 2009 General Motors filed for bankruptcy, the fourth largest filing in U.S.
history.
