June 20 History American Eagle Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not—June 20, 2014:  Today is a great day to soar like an eagle while enjoying the holidays, factoids, and a quote by Winston Churchill linked to eagles.
            1. World Refugee Day—promoting awareness of a major problem in the world today as thousands in places like Syria flee the effects of violence.
            2. American Eagle Day—created by House Resolution in 2011 to celebrate the restoration of the American Eagle in many of the lower 48 states; our national symbol is thriving and very well in Alaska.
           3. Ice Cream Soda Day—celebrating a great drink on a hot summer day.
          4. World Productivity Day—another unknown holiday celebrating the contributions of productivity tools in the work place.
On this day in:
            a. 1900 forces under what became known as the Boxer Rebellion began the 55 day siege of the Legation Quarter in Beijing.
            b. 1948 The Ed Sullivan Show (noted for among other things introducing the Beatles) made its debut—who could ever forget such acts as the man spinning 50 or so plates.
            c. 1963 in a step toward pulling back from nuclear war the “Red Telephone” link between Washington D.C. and Moscow was installed.
If only Obama would listen: “When the eagles are silent, the parrots begin to jabber.” Winston Churchill As usual this man was right on point and if alive today would have to be wearing ear plugs thanks to the decline in voices of the American Eagle.
