Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 1, 2018 November 1, 2018
In a déjà vu dirty tricks political movement an illegal campaign mailer sent
out to Blues urging them to support the Libertarian candidate has caused the
candidate to drop out while urging voters to vote Republican (Tester’s campaign
was accused of doing the same thing in 2012 to siphon off votes from Republicans
to give Tester the election by 4 %); the McCaskill campaign is accused of aping
Tester’s alleged dirty tricks by sending out an illegal mailing urging
Republicans to vote Libertarian and charging Josh Hawley who has been endorsed
by the NRA as not protecting gun rights; while the eyes of Central America are
on the response of America to the caravan of illegal aliens, the caravan
organizer has admitted failure in obtaining buses for the illegals (millions of
Central Americans want to come to this country and if the caravan succeeds in
entering this country the flood gates will open to millions seeking work not
valid asylum seekers); Trump has doubled down by indicating he is considering
sending an additional 15,000 troops to the border (Congress needs to exercise
the nuclear option and pass legislation requiring illegals seeking refugee
status to apply for it in the American Embassy or consulate in their home
country and if not granted or applied for be denied refugee status and
immediately deported); Richard Bowers has entered a plea of not guilty in the
Tree of Life massacre (could understand pleas based on insanity but he is guilty as guilty
can be and the jury will set a record for the shortest time in deliberation in
rendering a verdict although they may have reservations about a death penalty); Silicon Valley’s male
dominated culture has taken a rightful hit as vast numbers of Google employees
are in protest mode over a large payout to a Google executive charged with sexual
misconduct; the son and daughter of Red House candidate in Missouri, Steven
West, are urging voters not to support their father as they claim he is a
racist and anti-Semite; Emanuel’s announcement that he will not seek reelection
has not curbed the gun violence as through October 31, 2018, 2578 people mostly
of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of whom 424 have died (when
will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism
as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of mostly
people of color by mostly people of color).
As always,

On this day in:
a. 1950 two Puerto Rican nationalists, Griselio Torrasola and
Oscar Collazo failed in their attempt to assassinate President Truman at the
Blair House with Torrasola mortally wounding a Capitol policeman before being

was never carried out as Truman commuted his sentence to life in prison where his
sentence was commuted to time served by President Jimmy Carter in 1979
b. 1960 while campaigning for the presidency, JFK announced his
idea for the Peace Corps.
c. 1973 Leon Jaworski was appointed the new Watergate

d. 1982 Honda became the first Asian company to begin producing
cars in the United States at Marysville, Ohio.
e. 1993 the Maastricht Treaty took effect formally creating the

Reflections on the attempted assassination
of President Truman: “At this time all
of us in Washington had a bad scare. It occurred on November 1, 1950.
The Cabinet had assembled in
midafternoon in the National Cemetery at Arlington, where the President was to
unveil a monument… My wife and I were sitting with General and Mrs. Marshall.
John Snyder, Secretary of Treasury, joined us. “An attempt has been made,”
he said, “to assassinate the President. I don’t know what has happened.
Shooting has been reported in front of Blair House [where the President was
living]. I think the President is all right, but I don’t know.” A
buzz of conversation broke out around us as those who had overheard passed the
word to those behind them. Just then the Marine Band broke into “Hail to the
Chief” as the President stepped out of his car and walked to the rostrum
looking as if he had not a care in the world." Dean Acheson, former
Secretary of State from Present at the Creation
