November 24, 2018 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Small Business Saturday

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 24, 2018 On the wildfire front, helped by heavy rains,  the Camp Fire is now 95% contained as firefighters are slowly gaining ground and the death toll has risen to 84 with the number of people missing has decreased to 475; the House will hold hearings on the state of the DOJ’s investigation of the Clinton Foundation which has been heavily criticized for the pay to play scandal of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton while Comey has told the House to take a hike as he will ignore the subpoena if the hearing is not closed; Trump and Chief Justice Roberts are in a snit fit over an Obama District Court Judge blocking
Trump’s executive order on asylum as the illegal alien caravan begins to arrive in Tijuana; Schumer drew flack for condemning Justice Roberts’ decisions while praising for standing up to Trump; in a Holy Rollers moment Houston firefighters responding to a supposed church fire discovered no flames but a 100 illegal slot machines; the most overused word in the
English language was used after the airing of the 1973 Charlie Brown Thanksgiving since a black Franklin was sitting by himself in a lawn chair at the dinner table; the Fourth National Climate Assessment was released indicating that if there are not significant reductions in greenhouse emissions the U.S. economy will be reduced by 10% in the next 80 years; on the sports front Phil Mickelson birdied the 4th playoff hole to best Tiger Woods in their $9 million golf matchup in Law Vegas; sadly 13 year old Sandra Parks who wrote a prize winning essay on gun violence two years ago was shot and killed when two gunman opened fire on her house; Emanuel’s announcement that he will not seek reelection has not curbed the gun violence as through November 22, 2018, 2712 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of whom 457 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of mostly people of color by mostly people of color).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Elvis Presley, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you can change the channel when exposed to nothous claims and a relevant quote from Alan Dershowitz on the Iran nuclear deal, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. 2. Small Business Saturday—created by American Express in 2010 to promote shopping at small businesses which are the backbone of our economy in terms of job growth.
3. 1960 Number One Song— the number one song in 1960 on a run of 6 weeks in that position was “Are You Lonesome Tonight” by Elvis Presley. Here is a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_cS5aCozhcA
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we moved from words beginning with “m” to words beginning with “n” is “nothous” which  means spurious which too often describes the news output of the MSM.
5. To Trip A President--celebrating the birth on this day in 1949 of Linda Trip who secretly recorded her conversations with Monica Lewinsky that led to the impeachment of Bill Clinton.
    On this day in:
a. 1944 the 73rd Bombardment Wing commenced the first B-29 bombing runs over Tokyo.
b. 1963 Lee Harvey Oswald, the assassin of President Kennedy was shot and killed in the basement of the Dallas Police Department by Jack Ruby.

d. 1974 Donald Johanson and Tom Gray discovered a 40% complete skeleton of Australopithecus afarensis that they name “Lucy” in the Awash Valley in Ethiopia’s Afar Depression.
e. 2013 Iran signed a deal called by Trump the worst deal in history with the P5+1 nations calling for it to reduce its nuclear program in exchange for reduced economic sanctions.
Reflections on Iran nuclear deal: ““Most people today are not aware that British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain helped restore Great Britain’s financial stability during the Great Depression and also passed legislation to extend unemployment benefits, pay pensions to retired workers, and otherwise help those hit hard by the slumping economy. But history does remember his failure to confront Hitler. That is Chamberlain’s enduring legacy. So too will Iran’s construction of nuclear weapons, if it manages to do so in the next few years, become President Barack Obama’s enduring legacy. Regardless of his passage of health care reform and regardless of whether he restores jobs and helps the economy recover, Mr. Obama will be remembered for allowing Iran to obtain nuclear weapons.” ― Alan Dershowitz, The Case Against the Iran Deal: How Can We Now Stop Iran from Getting Nukes?
