Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 5, 2018 The U.S. has
levied sanctions on Iran that should impose a world of economic pain; in another
example of the evils of big government, after the votes have been counted in
the midterms, the candidates will have spent a record $5 billion trying to get elected; Obama who
has broken precedence by campaigning against Republicans is still trying to
claim credit for the Trump recovery and is mocking Trump on the issue of the
illegal alien caravan heading toward our Southern border; anti-Semite Farrakhan
who has yet to be condemned by Democratic leaders was in Iran leading a crowd
of Iranians in “Death to America” chants; the Nothing But Cack network is
living up to its name by blocking a disabled vet’s access to a disabled parking
spot and alleging on SNL that a former Seal’s eye patch made him look like a “hit
man in a porno movie”; U.S. troops are putting up barbed wire at the Mexican
border; in a sad till death do us part moment, a Texas couple married for less
than two hours was killed after leaving in a helicopter from the site of the
wedding in Texas; Washington may become the first state to impose a tax on
carbon emissions that would raise billions if proposition 1631 is passed by the
voters tomorrow; on the criminal justice front, Louisiana has a ballot measure
to eliminate a provision that allows juries to convict with less than a unanimous
vote; Emanuel’s announcement that he
will not seek reelection has not curbed the gun violence as through November 4,
2018, 2603 people mostly of color have been shot by mostly people of color, of
whom 430 have died (when will Chicago get serious about this carnage or is this
the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to
the slaughter of mostly people of color by mostly people of color).

5. Paper Moon—celebrating the birth on this day in 1963 of Tatum O’Neal who is
the daughter of Ryan O’Neal and who for her role in Paper Moon became the youngest performer to win an Academy Award
but struggled with drug addiction after her marriage to John McEnroe collapsed
but after a ten year struggle marked by an arrest for possession of crack cocaine
is clean today.
On this day in:
a. 1990 after giving a speech in New York City, Rabbi Meir Kahane,
the founder of the right wing Kach Movement that advocated mass migration of
American Jews to Israel, restricting citizenship in Israel to Jews only and the
annexation of the West Bank, was shot and killed.
b. 2006 Saddam Hussein and two co-defendants were convicted of
the massacre of 148 Shi’a Muslims in the city of Dujail in 1982.
c. 2007 the Android operating system was unveiled by Google.
d. 2009 jihadist U.S. Army Major Nidal Hasan shot and killed 13
adults plus and unborn child and wounded 32 at Fort Hood, Texas before being
shot and wounded by one of his fellow soldiers whose shots permanently paralyzed
Hasan from the waist down. Hasan was court martialed, founded guilty of murder
and sentenced to death.
e. 2017 Devin Kelly entered a church in Sutherland Springs,
Texas to shoot and kill 26 and wound 20 others before being wounded himself
twice by an armed NRA member causing him to crash his fleeing car whereupon he
took his own life.
Reflections on the Fort Hood massacre from
on the witnesses there: “I got down on the ground, just laid there and watched
him shoot very consistently and it didn’t even sound like he was reloading and
just calculated motion and I laid there and I watched him. I didn’t see his
name but I saw his face as I watched him and it was just a cold, calculated
