Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For November 12, 2018 The death toll from
the California wildfires has risen to 31 with the town of Paradise literally
burned off the map; like ants converging on a picnic basket, 3 dozen Blues
including our illegal alien supporter queen Kamala Harris have floated the idea
of running for president in 2020 easily exceeding the initial field of 17 Reds
who announced to fill Obama’s seat in 2916; the caravan of illegals is still
heading north but has split into three (before they arrive the lame duck
Congress should ram through legislation requiring any amnesty seekers to apply
for status at a American Embassy or Consulate in his or her home nation and
without applying and obtaining status be subject to immediate deportation on
arrival to the U.S.); the news out of North Korea reveals that Kim may be
conning us as satellite photos appear to reveal more missile bases being
constructed to replace the missile base that was removed with great fanfare; Stan
Lee the creator at Marvel Comics of superheroes Spiderman, the Incredible Hulk
and the Fantastic Four has died at 95; Nancy Pelosi may be touting a confident
tone that she will be the next Speaker of the House even as a new poll shows
that 56% of the Democrats in the House do not want her as Speaker (as much as I
disagree with her she is a great lightning rod to energize Reds is Nancy Pelosi);
Emanuel’s announcement that he will not seek reelection has not curbed the gun
violence as through November 11, 2018, 2610 people mostly of color have been
shot by mostly people of color, of whom 435 have died (when will Chicago get
serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run
city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of mostly people of
color by mostly people of color).
As always,
I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Sammy Kaye,
factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you are not
hobbled by nolition in facing the problems that face you and a relevant quote from Nadia Comaneci on
the secret to winning, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any
memorable events like college graduations, birthdays, weddings,
or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the

1. World Pneumonia Day—created in 2009 to create awareness of the scourge of childhood
pneumonia that sickens millions each year.
2. World Orphan Day—created by the Stars Foundation to raise awareness of the plight
of the estimated 159 million orphans that exist due to the loss of parents
through diseases like AIDS, wars and armed conflict, and malnutrition.
3. 1950 Number One Song— the number one song in 1950 on a run of 2 weeks in that
position was “Harbor Lights” by Sammy Kaye. Here is a recording of the
song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=obFCM0OpEMI
“Swing and sway with Sammy Kaye” ended at the age of 77.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we moved from words beginning with
“m” to words beginning with “n” is “nolition” which means unwillingness which when it comes to
compromise in the Swamp describes Congess to a tee.
5. Savor the 10—celebrating the birth on this day in 1961 of Romanian born
gymnast Nadia Comaneci who made history in the 1976 Olympics by scoring a
perfect 10 in a gymnastic event. In two Olympics she garnered 5 Gold Medals and
3 perfect 10’s.
On this day in:
a. 1969 independent journalist Seymour Hersh broke the story on
the My Lai Massacre by U.S. troops yjsy
lo;;rf 347 unarmed civilians mostly women and children..
b. 1979 in response to the seizure of the U.S. Embassy by
Iranians in Tehran, President Jimmy Carter suspends all imports of Iranian oil.
c. 1990 Tim Berners-Lee published a proposal for the creation of
the world wide web.
d. 1997 Ramzi Youseff was convicted of the 1993 World Trade
Center Bombing and is serving life without possibility of parole in prison.
e. 2001 Taliban forces abandoned Kabul ahead of advancing Northern
Alliance Forces.
Reflections on what it takes to obtain a
Gold Medal: “Hard work has made it easy. That is my secret. That is why I win.”
Nadia Comaneci Amen to that observation.
