Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For October
21, 2018 Cruz in a tough reelection fight with Beto O’Rourke has received help
from an unexpected source, Sameer Syeed has filed a class action lawsuit
against O’Rourke for his sending unwanted text messages to him and other
members of the class in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act
seeking $500 per text message; on the sports front, the Dodgers are going to
the World Series and the Lakers lost their home opener in a game that featured
a 4th quarter boxing match between two players along with their ejection from the game; Blue Senate
candidate Sinema is being ripped by Mc Sally for her support of people wanting
to go to Afghanistan to fight with the Taliban (personal affront to McSally who
was the first female A-10 Squadron commander in the war in Afghanistan leading
attacks against the Taliban in support of U.S. troops); the Honduran caravan is
still coming with hundreds swimming across the river that serves as a border
between Mexico and Guatemala (if this caravan is not stopped at our border and
the migrants deported look for a massive wave of illiterate, unskilled males
coming from Central America which is why we must change the law to facilitate deportation,
build a wall, implement e-verify, ban sanctuary cities, and tax any remittances
by illegals to their home countries); Amy Schumer another politicized comic who
has destroyed comedy has charged that white players who do not take a knee
during the National Anthem are complicit in supporting racism; Henry Kissinger
the 95 year old former Secretary of State invited to give a speech at NYU was
heckled and his speech disrupted until
protesters were removed from the event; the world remains skeptical of the Saudi’s
account of the death of the journalist at the Saudi consulate in Turkey with
growing calls for the replacement of the Crown Prince (Hobson’s Choice for the
U.S. in how to react to this act by the Saudis given the need to have Saudi
Arabia as a counterpoint to Iran and its funding of terror in the Middle East);
Emanuel’s announcement that he will not seek reelection has not curbed the gun
violence as through October 20, 2018, 2468 people mostly of color have been
shot by mostly people of color, of whom 411 have died (when will Chicago get
serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run
city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of mostly people of
color by mostly people of color).
As always,

Trainor, factoids of interest for this day in history, the fact that you

1. International Day of the Nacho—celebrating the creation of the nacho
in 1943 by Ignacio “Nacho” Anaya at a restaurant in Piedras Negras, Mexico and is
now the piece de resistance at football viewing parties.
2. Global Iodine Deficiency Prevention Day—created by UNICEF
to promote the use of iodine in salt as the lack of iodine in a diet can create
of host of severe medical problems.
3. 2014 Number One Song— the number one song in 2014 on a run of 8 weeks in that
position was “All About That Brass” by Meghan Trainor. Here is a recording
of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7PCkvCPvDXk
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day as we move from words beginning with
“m” to words beginning with “n” is “nescience” which means ignorance or
lack of knowledge a trait when it comes to solving difficult issues facing this
nation, many of our politicians are doomed to possess in overwhelming
quantities.
5. Here Comes the Judge—celebrating the birth on this day in 1942 of Judith Blum better
known to her fans as Judge Judy who was the only female in her class of 125 at
American University of Law and went on to become a judge in the Family Law Court
in New York adjudicating thousands of
cases until approached by an agent with a idea to do a reality courtroom show
in 1996, an opportunity which she jumped on and the rest with Judge Judy is history followed by 10 million loyal
fans.
On this day in:
a. 1921 in a what took us so long moment, President Harding
became the first sitting president to deliver a speech castigating lynching of
African-Americans in the Deep South.
b. 1940 the first edition of Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls was published.
c. 1959 President
Eisenhower signed an Executive Order transferring Wernher Von Braun and other
German scientists from the U.S. Army to NASA.
d. 1973 Fred Dryer of the Los Angeles Rams became the first player in the NFL to score two safeties in a single game.
d. 1973 Fred Dryer of the Los Angeles Rams became the first player in the NFL to score two safeties in a single game.
e. 1994 in a why we do not trust you moment, North Korea and the
United States sign an agreement that North Korea would stop the development of
its nuclear weapons program and agree to inspections, which it obviously
breached.
Reflections on lynchings: “In
my opinion while lynchings were quite possibly the most heinous crimes ever
witnessed in American history, they helped in bringing people together for a
sole purpose. It was because of these lynchings that armed self-resistance was
created. If white people knew black people were capable of fighting back then
there was less of a chance that violence actually would break out.” Assata
Shakur, convicted murderer of a New Jersey State Trooper who escaped from
prison and is now living with asylum in Cuba (why Obama did not condition
normalization of relations with Cuba on her return to the U.S. is mind
boggling).
