Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For May 8, 2017 It is High Noon in Texas for the misguided politicians who have created Sanctuary Cities and in the case of Travis Sanctuary Counties both of which categories as a result of legislation signed by Governor Scott face cut off of state funding and jail time for officials who release aliens with detainers on them back into the community (really disturbing to see the protestors carrying signs “no borders, no nations”); President Obama whose failed legacy is being shredded received a Profile In Courage Award for facing many challenges during his presidency (most of which in foreign policy were created by his own acts but to his credit he did not attack Trump or the Reds but did not attack the lobbyists whose money makes it tough on Reds or Blues wanting to be reelected to show any courage); Sessions needs to ramp up the effort to destroy MS-13 and the courts ought to understand the rationale for the travel ban to increase our safety as three men chanting “MS-13” stabbed a man in the Queens and relieved him of $600; Trump’s temporary travel ban goes before the full 4th circuit with its majority of judges appointed by democratic presidents; we castigate ISIS for their cubs that are taught to kill but remain silent when a Spanish teacher, name and ethnicity as yet unknown, had a Cinco de Mayo party for her students with a piñata with a photo of President Trump (she has been placed on administrative leave but should be fired for such instigation of hate); California’s junior Senator in a new low of decorum and another high in bias rhetoric dropped the f### bomb at a public meeting in San Francisco against a Red Senator who opposes Obamacare http://alaskanpoet.blogspot.com/2017/05/sen-harris-drops-f-bomb-disgrace.html; almost a stuck record or a remake of Groundhog Day, Chicago style, the carnage in Chicago continued unabated in May with total shootings in 2017 through May 8 increasing by 15 yesterday to 1107 with the death toll by 4 to 189.

4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “cantillate” which means to chant or intone a religious text which might also be a good word to describe what the Blues were doing after the AMCA was passed save that the words were anything but religious.

Travelin Man Who Hated To Fly—celebrating the birth on this day in 1940 of Ricky Nelson, child star of the TV series Ozzie and Harriet, who went on to become a successful actor and award winning singer who hated to fly but refused to tour by bus and was killed on his comeback tour on December 31, 1985 when his private 41 year old DC-3 crashed and burned less than two miles from the landing field at De Kalb, Texas.

b. 1902 in a deadly reminder how puny humans are, Mount Pelee on Martinque erupted destroying Saint Pierre and killing some 30,000 in the process, leaving a handful of survivors.
c. 1946 two Estonian teenage girls Ageeda Paavel and Aili Jurgenson blew up the Soviet War Memorial which stood before the Bronze Soldier in Tallinn and were caught, “tried,” convicted and sent to the Gulag for many years.
d. 1972 in what took you so long moment that cost us thousands of lives in the Vietnam War, President Nixon announced the mining of Haiphong Harbor to cut off the supply of war material to North Vietnam.
e. 1978 Peter Habeler and Reinhold Messner became the first to climb Mt. Everest without supplemental oxygen (never, ever enter a hold your breath contest with these two).
