Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For May 20, 2017 Instead of a groveling Obama apologizing for the U.S., a vibrant and strong President Trump is visiting Saudi Arabia, announcing an over hundred billion dollar arms deal with the Saudis as GE announced a fifteen billion dollar deal to the delight of its shareholders; Blues appear to be up in arms over suggestions that Joseph Lieberman will be named by Trump to replace the fired Director Comey who is expected to testify before Congress soon; the Blue governor of Colorado in an attempt to keep ICE from deporting a convicted violent felon must be smoking too much of his legalized pot as he has just pardoned this felon; Brainherd High School in Minnesota has just joined the list of hate mongering public schools with its yearbook publishing really vile comments about Trump like wanting to behead him; Huma Abedin has filed for divorce against her pervert husband (frightening to imagine her at the right hand of a President Clinton); almost a stuck record or a remake of Groundhog Day, Chicago style, the carnage in Chicago continued unabated in May with total shootings in 2017 through May 19 increasing to 1241 and the death toll increasing to 213, a major tragedy that the powers to be in Chicago seem to completely ignore.

4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “ichneumous” which is the perfect word to describe politicians, bureaucrats and lawyers expecially family law lawyers as it means parasitical.

Mad Dogs and Englishmen Not Smart Enough Smoke Out—celebrating the birth on this day in 1944 British blues singer Joe Cocker with his gravelly voice and wild stage gyrations but who was plagued by substance abuse and hooked on a two pack a day cigarette habit and like so many smokers died of lung cancer at the too early age of 70.

a. 1570 cartographer Abraham Ortelius published his Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, the world’s first modern atlas.
b. 1862 in a move to open up the West, President Lincoln signed into law the Homestead Act.
c. 1881 Krakatoa in Indonesia began to erupt and violently erupted three months later, killing 36,000 people and plunging the Earth into an early winter with massive crop losses due to the amount of ash spewn into the atmosphere lowering our temperatures.
d. 1969 the ten day battle to occupy a worthless piece of dirt by American forces ended with 72 American lives lost; the action was strongly condemned in the U.S. Senate especially when the American troops withdrew on June 5 as American focus shifted from killing the NVA to minimizing casualties.
e. 1983 Luc Montagnier published in Science his discovery of the HIV virus that causes AIDS.
Reflections on why following the money may not be the best idea:” If you look at three diseases, the three major killers, HIV, tuberculosis and malaria, the only disease for which we have really good drugs is HIV. And it's very simple: because there's a market in the United States and Europe. Jim Yong Kim, noted Korean-American physician and President of the World Bank.
