April 5, 2017 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Paraprofessional Appreciation Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For April 5, 2017  The Blues are in full on politization of SCOTUS mode with their filibuster on a stellar nominee Judge Gorsuch and are a disgrace to the integrity of the Senate and will be blown away by the nuclear option (at least Senator Merkely is giving a good Mr. Smith imitation from the state of Oregon with 15 hours and counting of foolishness; sabers are starting to rattle big time at the Pentagon with respect to this fat pathetic menace in North Korea as on the eve of a visit by the leader of China another failed missile test (time for China to help us rein in this madman); in a déjà vu joke moment when Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize Chelsea Clinton has received the Lifetime Humanitarian Award (for what? accepting money for the Clinton Foundation from Islamist states that persecute women and gays) and has not turned down an idea that she may run for president in 2020 (good luck to another inept neophyte like Obama); the Susan Rice saga continues to unfold as she continues to change her story  but for her sake I hope she is consulting with counsel as her story continues to change and no one in their right mind believes her claim there was no political motivation behind her unmasking (time prosecute this lying pathetic political hack for felonies); kudos or outrage to the Muslim senior who was admitted to Stanford on the strength of his application writing 100 times that “Black Lives Matter”; yesterday I reported that trainers were refusing to take off over concern of the safety of the oxygen systems and today another potential example of the ruin caused by gutting of the military by Obama as a F-16 crashed shortly after takeoff with the pilot able to eject safely; almost like a stuck record or a remake of Groundhog Day, Chicago style,  the carnage in Chicago continues unabated with total shootings in 2017 through April 4 increasing by 12 to 776 and the death toll rising by only 1 to 143 (God help those poor minorities being shot mostly by minorities when the weather gets warmer and the shooters’ aim gets really better and there is more daylight to find and shoot victims) and yet nothing, absolutely nothing, appears to be occurring to address this blight on blacks and minorities which is what racism from a black mayor really looks like who appears to care only about the rights of illegal aliens in his sanctuary city  (when will Chicago residents through the city council try to impeach this pathetic, inept mayor?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the Bee Gees, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote from the director of Planned Parenthood, while be operose in your approach to solving problems,  secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1.  Go For Broke Daynot sure whether this observance is to encourage people to step outside their complacent lives  to take risks or whether it is to commemorate the achievements of the “Go for Broke” 442nd regiment composed of Japanese Americans who despite their parents and brothers being shamefully interned fought for America in Europe and became the most highly decorated regiment in WWII.
2.  Paraprofessional Appreciation Day—celebrating the contributions to the education of our children in the public schools of the teachers’ aides and assistants without whom teachers facing 30 plus to 1 ratios would be overwhelmed.
3. 1978 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1978 on a run of 8 weeks in that position “Night Fever” by the Bee Gees.  Here is a recording of the group performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ihs-vT9T3Q
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “operose” which means to involve much industry or effort which when in comes to resolving the gridlock in the Swamp, neither party seems inclined to do.
5. Right Up to the Curtain Call—celebrating the birth on this day in 1900 of the iconic actor Spencer Tracy who made 75 films, was nominated for Oscars nine times with two wins and died due to his struggles with alcoholism 17 days after finishing his last picture Guess Who Is Coming to Dinner at the early age of 67.
On this day in:
a. 1792 for the first time in our history a president exercised the power granted to him in the Constitution to veto legislation passed by Congress which altered the apportionment formula for House members because he felt it favored Northern states (his veto was sustained and in his two terms of office Washington vetoed only one other bill).
b. 1922 The American Birth Control League, the forerunner to Planned Parenthood was incorporated.
c. 1933 President Roosevelt signed two executive orders, one forming the Civilian Conservation Corps to put people back to work and the other to ban the hoarding of gold coin and bullion.
d. 1949 a fire in a hospital in Effingham, Illinois killed 77 people, leading to nationwide improvements in fire codes in public buildings.
e. 1999 two Libyans charged with the bombing of Pan Am Flight 102 while over the skies of Lockerbie, Scotland were extradited to the Netherlands for trial.
Reflections on abortion: "First as you know, as we celebrate the 100th birthday of Margaret Sanger, our outrageous and our courageous leader we will probably find a number of areas in which we may want to find more about Margaret Sanger than we thought we wanted to know ... we should be very proud of what we are and what our mission is. It is a very grand mission ... abortion is only the tip of the iceberg.” Faye Wattleton, president Planned Parenthood Federation at its annual luncheon in St. Louis, Missouri on February 5, 1979 Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
