Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For April 1, 2017 Tom Perez, the new head of the DNC, was on an angry tirade yesterday at a Blue rally in New Jersey claiming Trump did not win the election (an appropriate claim on April Fools’ Day) and touting the discredited claim that the Russians colluded with the Russians when the Blues put up the most discredited candidate in modern political history and ran the worst campaign also; you know the ACA is in trouble when even the NYT notes that with insurers bailing from more and more regions of the country there will be no insurance available to use Obamacare subsidies on; Red bloodletting continues as Trump is targeting the Freedom Caucus by starting to urge voters to defeat its members in next year’s primaries; on the sports front an eighth grader without arms made a last second game winning shot http://www.foxnews.com/us/2017/04/01/video-shows-armless-basketball-player-13-winning-game-with-last-second-shot.html for an amazing video and Stanford and UConn women both lost so we will not have the pleasure of seeing the two Samuelson sisters on different ends of the court in the finals; media is guilty of fake news by also not covering news that does not validate its leftist view of the world as in the case of rarely reporting on the immigration status of persons arrested as in the case of 23 persons recently rounded up for selling heroin and fentanyl (a synthetic opioid that is 50-100 times more potent than morphine and very deadly), ten of whom were illegals; almost like a stuck record or a remake of Groundhog Day, Chicago style, the carnage in Chicago continues unabated with total shootings in 2017 through March 31 increasing by 9 to 737 and the death toll rising by 5 to 135 (God help those poor minorities being shot mostly by minorities when the weather gets warmer and the shooters’ aim gets really better and there is more daylight to find and shoot victims) and yet nothing, absolutely nothing, appears to be occurring to address this blight on blacks and minorities which is what racism from a black mayor really looks like (when will Chicago residents through the city council try to impeach this pathetic, inept mayor?).
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to the Blue Swede, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant quote from Charles Lamb, while hoping your kylie always returns, secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. April Fools’ Day—celebrating hoaxes perpetrated on unsuspecting public who become April Fools (unfortunately with the continuing allegations of Fake News made by Trump on a daily basis, maybe the day and its hoaxes first mentioned in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales will lose its uniqueness).
2. Fossil Fuels Day—promoted by environmental groups since 2004 as a play on April Fools to create awareness of the need to lessen dependence on fossil fuels and increase the use of alternative and renewable fuels.
3. 1974 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1974 on a run of 1 week in that position “Hooked on a Feeling” by the Swedish rock band Blue Swede. Here is a recording of the band performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NrI-UBIB8Jk.
4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “kylie” which means boomerang in Australia which might describe what may happen to the Blues if they continue to obstruct Trump’s agenda.
5. No Place for an Eye for an Eye Revenge—bemoaning the birth on this day in 1955 of Terry Nichols who with Timothy McVeigh conspired to truck bomb the Oklahoma City Federal Building in retaliation for the government’s attack on the Branch Davidian complex near Waco, Texas. Nichols dodged the death penalty and will celebrate the day in a federal penitentiary in Colorado serving his life sentence.
