Ridley's Believe It Or Not For March 10, 2016 International Bagpipe Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For March 10, 2016. Unfortunately in this leap year, still 316 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term but fortunately you can find daily updates and photos on the Iditarod at www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com. Interesting theater last night during the Clinton/Sanders debate with Clinton being asked about trustworthiness and she would drop out of the race if indicted and looking delusional in her assertions that our porous border has never been more secure. Sanders went after her connections to Wall Street and her receipt of millions in campaign donations and large amounts of speaking fees, the transcripts of which she still has not released.  I trust your Thursday is proving to be a great one; and as always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances,  music links to Spice Girls and a bagpiper and drummer playing Amazing Grace and Highland Cathedral, factoids of interest, a  relevant quote from an anonymous jokester while looking forward to enjoying some warm blueberry popovers fresh out of the oven, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. International Bagpipe Daycelebrating since 1986 that unique instrument that will curdle milk and sounds like someone is stepping on the tails of a dozen cats, but no funeral is complete without one piping Amazing Grace and no St. Patrick’s Day would be complete without one playing also. A link to Amazing Grace and Highland Cathedral for your enjoyment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qjCEi0PB4M
2. World Kidney Day—commemorating the need to promote good kidney health and raise funds for kidney disease research—dialysis may keep a person alive, but with a quality of life that is abysmal.
3. 1997 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in 1997 on a run of seven weeks in that position Wannabe by Spice Girls. Here is a link to Spice Girls performing Wannabe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gJLIiF15wjQ
4. National Blueberry Popover Day—celebrating another great way to enjoy one’s blueberries.
5. Go With Your Instinctscelebrating the birthday on this day in 1958 of Sharon Stone, one very seductive actress who starred in the movie Basic Instinct with Michael Douglas and who won a Golden Globe Award for her work in Casino.
On this day in:
a. 1804 a formal ceremony was held in St. Louis, Missouri to transfer the Louisiana Territory, all 827,000 square miles of it, to the United States from France for the bargain basement sum of $15 million.
b. 1922 Mahatma Gandhi was convicted by the British of sedition and sentenced to six years in prison, but released after two years to have an operation due to appendicitis.
c. 1959 fearing an abduction attempt by the Chinese, 300,000 Tibetans surrounded the Dalai Lama’s palace to prevent his removal. The Dalai Lama fled the country several days later.
d. 1969 James Earl Ray plead guilty to the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr. He later tried unsuccessfully to revoke that guilty plea and seek a trial. He died in prison in 1998 from complications of chronic hepatitis C infections.
e. 2000 the NASDAQ composite stock index peaked at 5132.52 marking the end of the dot.com bubble that made investors millions, assuming the companies they invested in managed to go public and they were able to sell after their standstill agreements expired.
Reflections on bagpipes from a sense of humor standpoint: “A man goes to a physician. The doctor says, "I'm sorry to tell you this but you've only got six months to live."
The man says, "Doctor are you sure? Is there anything I can do?"
The doctor says, "Well, you could marry a piper."
"Will that make me live longer?"
"No, but it'll make your six months seem like six years." Anon
