March 21, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not World Poetry Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For March 21, 2016. Unfortunately still 305 days to go in President Obama’s pathetic lame duck term but fortunately March Madness is in full swing for both men and women, including the Stanford women who face South Dakota State tonight at 6:00 p.m. to get into the Sweet 16 once again. Great political theater as Trump meets with GOP leaders to today in an attempt to mollify concerns over his campaign and potential nomination while a feisty Hillary blasts him over his stance on Israel, but fortunately no rallies to vent more protesters anger. Obama was drenched getting of the plane in Havana and one can only hope on this visit/vacation he raises the issue of the fugitives from American justice being shielded by the Castros and the millions in property confiscated by the Communist government from Americans. I trust your Monday is proving to be a great one; and as always, I hope  you enjoy today’s holidays and observances (World Poetry Day being announced in rhyme), a music link to Ted Weems, factoids of interest, a  relevant quote from William Wordsworth while looking forward to enjoying a hunk of fresh French bread, blessed with a positive attitude and  secure in  the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or  anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem  at a great price  tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. World Poetry Day—no better way to rise above the rat race grime/ than to seek joy and serenity in a rhyme/ a day to honor poets and read their rhythmic works/ a refuge from a prose world gone berserk/ more poets to the world with different lens to see/ apples of spiritual knowledge from a fruitful tree. Great way to celebrate this observance would be to go visit my blog www.alaskanpoet.blogspot.com
2. International Color Day—celebrating the ability of the human eye to visualize in color the world around us and to empathize with that minority who are sadly color blind.
3. 1947 Number One Song—celebrating the number one song in the birth year of this poet in 1947 on a long run of twelve weeks in that position Heartaches by Ted Weems. Here is a link to Ted Weems and his orchestra performing  Heartaches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxe5OmWSJcc
4. National French Bread Day—from a baguette, bâton, boule, ficelle to a flûte, a great way to pair a fine cheese and a glass of wine—bon appétit!
5. Shaken Not Stirred But with a Whiff of Smoke—celebrating the birthday on this day in 1944 of Timothy Dalton who filled the role of James Bond in the late 80’s and was the last 007 to be seen on screen with a cigarette.
On this day in:
a. 1556 in a bad day for love and tolerance by the Catholic Church the Archbishop of England, Thomas Cranmer, was burned to death at the stake at Oxford, England.
b. 1804 Code Napoleon was enacted as the civil law of France.
c. 1925 in another bad day for tolerance and separation of church and state, the Butler Act, prohibiting the teaching of evolution in the public schools, was passed in Tennessee.
d. 1952 DJ Allan Freed who is believed to be the first person to coin the phrase “rock and roll” held the Moondog Coronation Ball, the first rock concert in the United States at Cleveland, Ohio. Unfortunately for the eager fans after the first song fire authorities closed the event due to the fact that the number of fans exceeded the number of attendees allowed in the building.
e. 2006 the social media site Twitter was founded and ten years later it is still limiting users to 140 characters and its stock price is mired in the mud way below its IPO price.
Worthy words to reflect on poetry “Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origins from emotion recollected in tranquility." — William Wordsworth, noted 19th and 18th Century English Romantic poet.
