Ridley's Believe It Or Not—September 24. 2014: Trust
your Wednesday is proving to be a good one and that you enjoy the holidays and factoids
and quote from Andy Rooney with a smile on your sunscreened face, with a trip
to your favorite restaurant for a cherries jubilee in the works, blessed with a
positive attitude, and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift
for a memorable event, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a
unique customized poem tailored to the event and the recipient.
1. Schwenkfelder Thanksgiving Day—celebrated annually since 1734
by the Schwenkfelder Society to give thanks for arriving in the Pennsylvania
Dutch region to escape religious persecution in Europe. If invited today you
might want to eat before going as the meal is water, bread, butter and apple
butter.
2. Gallbladder Good Health Day---celebrating
that little organ located under the liver that promotes digestion; today avoid
greasy foods and have an apple—gallstones
are incredibly painful.
3. National
Blue Bird of Happiness Day--“be like I, hold your head up high,
’til you see a ray of light and cheer
’til you see a ray of light and cheer
and so remember this, life is no abyss
somewhere there’s a bluebird of happiness”
somewhere there’s a bluebird of happiness”
Bluebird of Happiness
Harmati & Heyman
4. National
Punctuation Day—celebrating the proper use of the comma, dash, semicolon
and all those other marks that autocorrect and spell check have largely taken
over.
5. National
Cherries Jubilee Day—celebrating one of the classic flambé desserts with
cherries and a liqueur served over ice cream.
On this day in

secret report calling for containment of the Soviet Union, marking the
beginning of the Cold War.
b.1957 President Eisenhower sent the 101st Airborne to Little Rock
to enforce desegregation of the public schools.
c. 1968 60 Minutes debuted on CBS which until his death in 2011 at the
age of 92 featured the “Last Word” commentary by Andy Rooney.
d. 2002 the first consumer internet
service was launched by Compuserve.
Some
words of wisdom to high school graduates wondering what to do with lives: “"We need people who can actually do things. We have too many bosses
and too few workers. More college graduates ought to become plumbers or
electricians, then go home at night and read Shakespeare." Andy Rooney--
from an essay on finding a good job, March 21, 2010 Better yet they would not have thousands
upon thousands of dollars of student loans hanging over their heads.
