Ridley's Believe It Or Not September 3, 2020
CV
World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 279,437
new cases (a 1.07% increase compared to a 1.18% increase yesterday)
to bring the total over 26 million to 26,356,657 cases, 6,923,636
of which are active, 19,433,021 of which have been
closed with 18,319,699 recoveries (95.52% compared to yesterday’s
95.50%) and 870,284 deaths (4.48% compared to yesterday’s 4.50%) to
continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality
percentages.
CV USA
Cases: New cases of 33,858 with total cases over 6 million at 6,310,196 (a
.54% increase compared to yesterday’s .84% increase) with 2,563,816 active
cases of which 15,092, on a downward trend with slight blips from over 19,000
in the last 5 weeks (15,088 yesterday and 16,885 on August 1), are
in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 3,746,380 closures,
190,447 of which have been deaths (5.08% compared to yesterday’s 5.12%)
and 3,555,933 of which have been recoveries (94.92% compared to
yesterday’s 94.88%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are
finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending
CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and on a deaths per
million population measurement at 575 ranks behind Peru (885), Belgium (853)
Spain (625), UK (611), Chile (597) Italy (587), Brazil (583) and Sweden (577),
and only slightly worse than Mexico (510). We have now conducted 84,772,021 tests (more than (720,000 more tests than
those done yesterday and now at 255,853/M compared to Russia at 256,836/M).
Non CV Case News: At the press briefing today
Kayleigh McEnany had the video of Pelosi, sans mask coming in for her hair styling
in a shutdown salon, playing during the entire briefing (great to stoke outrage
but it detracts from the outrage we should have that Pelosi and Schumer are
blocking any attempts to reach a negotiated stimulus bill as millions of laid
off workers suffer); the divide in the nation precipitated by the BLM has
become so charged that facts surrounding the shooting a black don’t matter as
rioters were in force in D.C. before police body cams showed the person shot had
a gun clearly visible (what do these BLM rioters expect police to do let the gunman
shoot first and then shoot to wound?); “protester” and rioters in Portland seem
to have an unlimited supply of those not fearing to be arrested probably because
a large percentage of those arrested are just released to reappear on the
streets and never prosecuted providing shields to those who really want to burn,
loot and maim needed cover; Students for Trump released a video driving through
Pelosi’s district in San Francisco showing what 33 years of Pelosi brings you
in terms of the quality of life: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/nancy-pelosi-san-francisco-district-does-not-want-you-to-see-this;
rioters are turning on the leftist mayors who have been cowed to stand down by picketing
heir residences and forcing them to flee; on the end white guilt front by
passing yourself off as black front, Nkeckchi Diallo aka Rachel Dolezal who passed
herself off as black to head up the Spokane chapter of the NAACP has reached a
settlement in the welfare fraud criminal case filed against her by agreeing to
pay restitution of $9,000 and perform 120 hours of community service; Jessica
Krug a white Jewish-American professor who teaches Black History at George
Washington University has admitted after many years to the fact that she is
white not black.
Chicago/Baltimore Gun
Violence: In Chicago as of September 2, 2020, the number of shootings increased
to 2,837 of whom 480 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot
and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence
of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and
shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping
against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now
seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 262 behind Chicago at 218
murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is
this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind
eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the
left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which have been
way more deadly and way more numerous than shootings by police or by random mass shootings which occur with
significantly less frequency?).
As always, I hope you
enjoy today’s holidays and observances, factoids of interest for this day
in history, a musical link to “12th Street Rag” by Pee Wee Hunt
and His Orchestra, the fact that you are not a pharisaic, and a
quote by Jeffrey Sachs on how to achieve carbon reduction, secure in the
knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like
Father’s Day, college graduations, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries,

1. National
Skyscraper Day—celebrating that architectural marvel built
around a steel frame that first appeared in the U.S. in Chicago with the 10
story 128 feet tall Home Insurance
Company Building which now would be a mere dwarf as skyscrapers are defined as
buildings with 40 or more floors and 492 or over feet height.
2. National
Bowling League Day—celebrated on this day since 1921 to promote the
sport of bowling and the formation of and participation in bowling leagues.
3. 1948
Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1948 on a run of 8
weeks was “12th Street Rag” by Pee Wee Hunt and His Orchestra. Here
us a recording of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6XtHcJodJ0.
4. Word
of the Day—today’s word of the day is “pharisaic” which means
hypocrite which SalonGate so aptly shows
defines Nancy Pelosi to an absolute tee.
5. For
Whom the Bell Tolls--celebrating the birth on this day in 1923 of
Glenn Bell who founded Taco Bell in 1964 and grew it to 868 units before he
sold it to PepsiCo in 1978 for $125 million. He passed away on January 16, 2010
of Parkinson’s Disease at age 86 to miss the outcry from loyal fans angry that
Taco Bell is discontinuing its Mexican Pizza.
On
this day in:
a. 1941 in an
omen of what Jews under the rule of Germans would be facing the Auschwitz deputy
camp commander Karl Fritsch experimented with Zyklon B on Russian POWs and to
his satisfaction the poison gas worked quite well. The jury is out on the
question of whether he died or committed suicide in the last days of Berlin or
whether he escaped to die of old age, having escaped the hanging penalty he
would have faced for his crimes against humanity.
b. 1942
in response to German orders that the Jewish Ghetto in Lakhva, Belarus be
resettled to a camp, the Jewish residents led by Dov Lopatyn rose up against
the attempt, killing 6 German soldiers and 8 Ukrainian policemen at a cost of 1,100
killed which allowed 1000 to escape the Ghetto, of whom 120 were able to join
partisan units while the rest were ultimately caught and executed. The uprising
is believed to be the first against the Nazi’s Final Solution.
c. 1981 The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms
of Discrimination Against Women was instituted by the United Nations.
d. 2016 both the United States and China which together
release 40% of the world’s carbon emissions signed the Paris Agreement which
President Trump has indicated that the U.S. will withdraw in November of this
year.
e. 2017 North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful
nuclear test.
Reflections
on achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement: “ The transition to renewable energy can be
greatly accelerated if the world’s governments finally bring the engineers to
the fore... I was recently on a panel with three economists and a senior
business-sector engineer. After the economists spoke... the engineer spoke
succinctly and wisely. “I don’t really understand what you economists were just
speaking about, but I do have a suggestion... Tell us engineers the desired
‘specs’ and the timeline, and we’ll get the job done.” This is not bravado....
The next big act belongs to the engineers. Energy transformation for climate
safety is our twenty-first-century moonshot.” Jeffrey Sachs in For Climate Safety. Call in the Engineers,
Project Syndicate December 20, 2018.
