Seaptember 18, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Concussion Awareness Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not September 18, 2020

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 301,560 new cases (a 1.00  increase compared to a 1.25% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 30 million to 30,536,403 cases, 7,377,506  of  which  are active, 23,158,897 of which have been closed with 22,205,873 recoveries (95.88% compared to  yesterday’s 95.86%) and 953,024 deaths (4.12% compared to yesterday’s 4.14%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.

CV USA Cases: New cases of 49,705 with total cases over 6 million at 6,844,174 (a .73% increase compared to yesterday’s 2.58% increase) with 2,521,056 active cases of which 14,226, on a downward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23  (14,151 yesterday and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 4,372,823 closures, 202,621 of which have been deaths (4.63% compared to yesterday’s 4.65%) and 4,170,202 of which have been recoveries (95.37% compared to yesterday’s 95.35%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and on a deaths per million population measurement at 611 ranks behind Peru (942), Belgium (857), Spain (652), Bolivia (642) Chile (637),  Brazil (635), Ecuador (623), and UK (614)  and only slightly worse than Italy (590) and Sweden (580) that never closed its economy down like we did and Mexico (559) which announced it has run out of death certificates due to surge in deaths. We have now conducted 96,223,461 tests (now at 290,332/M compared to Russia at 287,773/M so Trump is telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis but for the U.K. at 314,407/M).
Non CV Case News: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the liberal icon of SCOTUS has just died, setting the  stage for a ballistic outcry by the Blues who will not want Trump to nominate a replacement SCOTUS Justice; already battle lines and gauntlets are being drawn and tossed as the left is vowing to pack the court and do away with the filibuster; for police there are no safe cities it seems as 17 year old Luis Acuna in an ambush exited a car as a passenger and started shooting at a parked Phoenix cop who returned fire and Acuna was apprehended but the driver is still at large (another reason why the BLM is barking up the wrong tree); 59% of Americans in a recent poll believe that there is a war on police and attacks on police should be prosecuted as hate crimes and support for BLM although still at a majority at 55% is down 12% as the riots and looting have put a dent in its moral high ground; whatever compromise genes Pelosi may at one time have had must have been Botoxed to death as she continues to refuse to budge from her $2.2 trillion demands (even got testy at a NYT reporter); Bill Gates may be a software genius but questions are raised on his allegations that Trump’s travel ban on China and later Europe made the pandemic worse; the idiots that created the gender reveal party that resulted in the El Dorado wildfire now have blood on their hands a firefight fighting the blaze has died; in yet another example of how dangerously divisive we have become, at a pro Trump rally in Aliso Viejo, Alvin Shaw attacked three women, ages 55, 74, and 84 and has been taken into custody and charged with assault and elderly abuse

Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of September 17, 2020, the number of shootings increased to 3,034 of whom 517 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 277 behind Chicago at 240 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which  have  been way  more  deadly and way more numerous than shootings by  police or by random mass shootings which occur much less.

         3. 1963 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1963 on a run of 3 weeks was “My Boyfriend’s Back”  by The Angels as their first number 1 song.  Here us a recording of the song:   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NuofNHKbVc The trio originated in New Jersey and was memorialized in The Jersey Boys.

         4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “planetic which means erratic and if describing the driving of a person, good chance that person is a DUI.

        5. I Gotta Go Now--celebrating the birth on this day in 1951 of Douglas Glen Colvin better known to his fans as Dee Dee Ramone, noted singer, songwriter, rapper and founder of the punk rock band the Ramones who struggled with heroin from his years as a teenager and sadly overdosed on June 5, 2002. At the bottom of his headstone is the line “O.K…I gotta go now.”

            On this day in:

         a. 1927 the Columbia Broadcasting System first goes on the air.

        b. 1960 Fidel Castro as the Prime Minister of Cuba arrives at the UN Headquarters in NYC.

        c. 1997 perhaps goaded by his third wife Hanoi Jane Fonda, Ted Turner donated  $1 billion to the United Nations.

         d. 2001 letters dusted with anthrax started to be sent to news organizations and the offices of Senators Daschle and Leahy which resulted in 5 dead and 11 being injured and the prime suspect killing himself.

           e. 2014 Scotland voted 55% to 45% against independence from England.

Reflections on concussions that are now a major concern in college and professional football: “On the overall spectrum of head trauma, football cases are mild for the most part. Serious injuries can and do happen, but most resolve themselves within 7 to 10 days with no lasting effects. The major concern is Second Impact Syndrome, when a player goes back too early and gets hit again. This can be very dangerous and lead to massive swelling of the brain. Multiple concussions are the big concern in football, compared to war-related head trauma, which usually involves one battlefield blast and the impact of the head against a wall, the ground or other hard surface.”–Dr. James P. Kelly, Director of the National Intrepid Center of Excellence for treating veterans with TBI and former neurologist for the Chicago Bears
