September 14, 2020 Ridley's Believe It Or Not Support Latino Business Day

Ridley's Believe It Or Not September 14, 2020

CV World Cases: The CV pandemic across the planet continues with 171,085 new cases (a .59%  increase compared to a .97% increase yesterday) to bring the total over 29 million to 29,270,548 cases, 7,244,067  of  which  are active, 22,035,479 of which have been closed with 21,105,582 recoveries (95.78% compared to  yesterday’s 95.76%) and 929,897 deaths (4.22% compared to yesterday’s 4.24%) to continue the trend of increased recovery percentages and decreased mortality percentages.

CV USA Cases: New cases of 67,877 with total cases over 6 million at 6,6719,607 (a 1.02% increase compared to yesterday’s .66% increase) with 2,538,830 active cases of which 14,1133, on a downward trend with slight blips from a high of 19,155 on July 23  (14,366 yesterday and 15,881 on September 1), are in serious or critical condition as trend continues to go down, and 4,180,777 closures, 198,654 of which have been deaths (4.75% compared to yesterday’s 4.77%) and 3,982,123 of which have been recoveries (95.25% compared to yesterday’s 95.23%) (our death rate percentages continue to improve and are finally in single digits since Cuomo repealed on May 10 his order sending CV positive patients to nursing homes and ADL facilities and on a deaths per million population measurement at 599 ranks behind Peru (929), Belgium (856), Spain (636), Chile (627), (Bolivia 627)  Brazil (619), Ecuador (617), and UK (613)  and only slightly worse than Italy (589) and Sweden (578) that never closed its economy down like we did and Mexico (548) which announced it has run out of death certificates due to surge in deaths. We have now conducted 93,208,856 tests (now at 281,258/M compared to Russia at 280,262/M so Trump is telling truth that we conduct more tests in number and on a per capital basis other than the U.K. at 283,895/M).
Non CV Case News: On the COVID-19 front, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have isolated an antibody that appears to neutralize the effects of the COVID-19 virus which potentially may be a game changer (keep your fingers crossed!); the 3 Western states of California, Oregon and Washington are being ravaged by wildfires that have burned 5 million acres, killed at least 35 people, destroyed hundreds upon hundreds of structures, raised havoc with air quality and are nowhere in sight of being contained (Trump will visit California to assess damage and needs and probably hear a litany of climate change blame); the good news on the two deputies who were shot is that they are out of surgery, in stable condition and a $100,000 reward has been posted for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the scumbag shooter but the bad news is that a band of protesters blocked the entrance to the hospital and chanted wishes that the deputies “f---ing died”; Tropical Storm Sally must have heard the Wilson Pickett’s  “Mustang Sally” song and has now strengthened to a CAT1 Hurricane expected to make landfall later this evening with massive rainfall that that has prompted mandatory evacuations along the coastline between New Orleans and Biloxi; in a glaring example of revolving door justice that does not just involve protesters aka rioters in Portland, Domingo Lopez who had been arrested and released 12 hours earlier for starting fires was rearrested for starting more fires after his release on the same roadway; Mayor Di Blasio already taking major ridicule for his stewardship of the city announced a slimmed down television only with floats tied down to cars for the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade that has been held every year since 1924; first Blumenthal and now Schulz of Starbucks fame has endorsed and pledged money to Biden’s campaign (even a Vente Dark Roast with 15 espresso shots will not delay Biden’s dementia); Biden is becoming the Howard Hughes of CV phobia with his staff going to huge lengths to keep him isolated to the point on gatherings requiring attendees with masks to replace them with N95 ones; Hobby Lobby despised by the left for the views of its Christian owners has announced that it is raising its minimum wage to $17 an hour effective October 1; in addition to the idiocy the “defund the police movement” police in places like Chicago which is the epicenter of black on black shootings and the Black Hole of BLM outrage on black on black shootings during this year have been shot at 65 times with 10 being hit (when do cops call it quits for their own safety and find another calling less dangerous, leaving no one to answer citizens’ 911 calls?).

Chicago/Baltimore Gun Violence: In Chicago as of September 13, 2020, the number of shootings increased to 2,991 of whom 511 have died (total travesty of BLM when blacks are shot and killed by blacks in droves and only sounds of silence and complete absence of any protests in front of City Hall demanding action to curb the killings and shootings); Baltimore with a fraction of Chicago’s population and hoping against all hopes that 2020 will not be a record in terms of deaths but now seems to be shooting less and killing less and is now 273 behind Chicago at 238 murders (when will Chicago and Baltimore get serious about this carnage or is this the case of true racism as a Blue run city turns a deaf ear and a blind eye to the slaughter of people of color by people of color and when will the left focus on the problem of color on color shootings in Blue run cities which  have  been way  more  deadly and way more numerous than shootings by  police or by random mass shootings which occur much less.

1. Support Latino Business Day—celebrating since 2019 Latino owned businesses which are a growing segment of our economy and as increasing numbers of Latinos are becoming Trump supporters, a good reason to shop there if you are one of Trump’s supporters.

      2. National Gobstoppers Day—celebrating a multilayered spherical candy that has been enjoyed by children since World War I and is probably better known in the U.S. as “jawbreakers.”

      3. 1959 Number One Song— the number 1 song in 1959 on a run of 4 weeks was “Three Bells”  by The Browns in their first number one song.  Here us a recording of the song:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HTkbj56bnYs The three siblings Jim Ed, Maxine and Bonnie started performing in 1955 and disbanded in 1967 but Jim Ed had a solo career performing and on radio almost until he died of lung cancer on June 11, 2015 at age 81, his youngest sister likewise at age 77 on July 16, 2016 and Maxine on January 21, 2019 from complications from heart and kidney disease.

     4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “picaresque” which means of, like or pertaining to rogues which too often describe politicians who have been in office too long in safe districts.

      5. A House Built on Wine Cannot Stand--celebrating the birth on this day in 1983 of noted English singer/songwriter Amy Winehouse who won 5 Grammys but struggled with drugs and alcohol and died from alcohol poisoning on July 23, 2011 at the too young age of 27.
        On this day in:

       a. 1960 to the bane of American motorists before energy independence, the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) was formed.
    b. 1989 Joseph Wesbecker  a former disabled pressman with Standard Gravure in Louisville, Kentucky, returned to his place of employment looking for the president and in the process shot and killed 8 and wounded 12 before putting a pistol to his head and killing himself. When it became known that he had been taking Prozac for his depression the victims’ families sued the manufacturer Eli Lily and the case was settled during trial.
     c. 1994 became the postseason that never was as the MLB postseason for 1994 was canceled due to a strike by the players that commenced on August 11, 1994.
     d. 2001 a historical National Prayer Service for the victims of 9/11 was held at the Washington National Cathedral and a similar service held at Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
       e. 2019 in another reason why energy independence for the U.S. is a really worthwhile goal, Houthi Rebels in Yemen attacked with multiple drones Saudi oil refining facilities at the Abqaiq-Khurais oil refineries putting them and the 5% of the world’s oil supplies  out of commission until the end of September.

Reflections on the cancellation of the MLB Postseason: “I was heartbroken. I remember saying to myself that night, "My God, we've been through World War I, World War II, we've been through Vietnam, Korea, everything, and somehow, and my God, we lost a World Series. It was shattering for me.” Bud Selig, Commissioner of MLB.
