February 9, 2016 Ridley's Believe It Or Not National Read in the Bath Tub Day

Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For February 9, 2017 The immigration problem revealed a human face not abstract as a illegal alien who was convicted of a felony, identity theft, checked in with the Phoenix ICE office as required every 6 months and was detained to be deported generating protests as she has a U.S. citizen husband and 16 year old (the longer our border remains porous the more illegals we will have to deal with and longer it will take to implement legislation insuring that immigrants we need are allowed in and those who do not commit crimes and contribute can remain her with or without a path to citizenship); the White House released a list of 24 individuals from the seven nations listed in Trump’s ban that have been arrested and/or convicted of terrorism charge in rebuttal to Judge Robart’s conclusion without any evidence that no one from those 7 countries have been involved in terrorism; Intel joined the growing list of companies heartened by Trump’s push for tax reform and cutting regulatory burdens to announce that it will complete its Fab 42 semiconductor plant in Chandler, Arizona at a cost of $7 billion and adding 3-4,000 high paying tech jobs when completed (all the more reason tax cuts and regulatory reform must go to the head of the line along with infrastructure); in the war against false news, Wikipedia has banned the Daily Mail as a source due to its being unreliable (the Daily Mail is a British tabloid in the news again due to Melania Trump refiling her libel suit for claims by the Daily Mail that she worked as an escort)as  President Trump is raising the possibility of sending in federal agents to Chicago, the number of  mostly blacks who  were shot by mostly blacks in Chicago in 2017 through February 7 now totals 371, 59 of whom died but from Mayor Emanuel and the BLM nothing but the sounds of silence and the fact that of the shooting deaths in 2017  less than 3.5% of the homicide have cleared.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Flo Rida and T-Pain, factoids of interest for this day in history, a quote from Brendan Behan, hoping that if you are a karateka you are progressing toward your black belt, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like Valentine’s Day, birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient.           4.
Word of the Day—the word of the day is “karateka” which means a person who performs the martial arts karate.
           5. Pen Is Mightier Than the Sword—celebrating the birth on this day in 1923 of Brendan Behan, noted Irish author and poet who served in the IRA in his youth and like way too many Irish drank way too much and developed diabetes and died from that disease in 1964.
 On this day in:
 1. 1621 Pope Gregory XV became the last Pope to be elected by acclamation.
 2. 1824 in the first election where the results of the popular vote were reported; for the first and only time in our history, the President of the United States was elected by the House of Representatives as none of the four candidates had received a majority of the electoral vote. John Quincy Adams, the son of former President John Adams was elected.
 3. 1870 President Grant signed legislation establishing the U.S. Weather Bureau.
 4. 1964 the Beatles made their first appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show before and estimated audience of 73 million viewers.
 5. 1971 pitcher Satchel Paige became the first Negro League baseball player to be inducted into Baseball’s Hall of Fame.
Reflections from today’s birthday boy: “I have a total irreverence for anything connected with society except that which makes the roads safer, the beer stronger, the food cheaper and the old men and old women warmer in the winter and happier in the summer. Brendan Behan. Interesting way of life and an attempt not to take things or one’s self too seriously. Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
