Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For February 21, 2017 There may
be a hiring freeze in federal employment but not at DHS as it ramps up to hire
thousands more ICE agents to start enforcing the immigration laws of this
country and end the “catch and release” policies of the Obama administration
(Trump campaigned on a secure the border policy and he is carrying out that
promise); Sweden is now sowing the seeds of an unwise admit without vetting
refugee policy as following an arrest of a refugee for drug possession in a
suburb of Stockholm heavily populated by refugees a riot broke out, burning
cars and throwing rocks at police; Trump comes out swinging at the latest wave
of anti-Semitism and threats against Jewish centers; more bloodshed in eastern
Ukraine as Putin seems hell bent on testing Trump (probably emboldened by
mainstream media’s speculation that Trump has ties to Russia which is a crock);
in another sign of intolerance of religious beliefs French presidential
candidate Marine Le Pen who is running on a conservative and nationalistic
platform refused to don a head scarf for a meeting with Lebanon’s top Sunni
leader and left without seeing him (French law bans head scarves and other
religious symbols for its pupils); the carnage in Chicago continues unabated
through February 20, rising to 478 shootings with the aim getting better so the
total dead has risen to 87 (God help those poor minorities being shot mostly by
minorities when the weather gets warmer and the shooters’ aim gets
better.

4. Word of the Day—today’s word of the day is “verjuice”
which is a sour juice obtained from crab apples or unripe grapes.

Begats the Wild Bunch—celebrating the birth on this day in 1925 of director Sam
Peckinpah noted for such really graphic violent movies such as the Wild Bunch and Straw Dogs; he was troubled by alcoholism and died far too soon in
1984.

granted the first U.S. Patent for a sewing machine.
b. 1848 Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto.
c. 1972 President Richard Nixon visited China to normalize
relations with that country.
d. 1975 former Attorney General John Mitchell and former White
House Aides H.R. Haldeman and John Ehrlichman were sentenced to prison for
their roles in the Watergate Scandal.
e. 1995 Steve Fossett became the first balloonist to fly solo in
a balloon across the Pacific Ocean after taking off from South Korea and
landing in Leader, Saskatchewan, Canada.
Reflections with a
familiar ring to them: “Reagan won because he was real. He believed in
America. He told people he was gonna make it great again coming out of a
disastrous four years of Jimmy Carter and Watergate before that.” Russ Limbaugh
