Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 7, 2017
Tragic news out of Florida as an Iraq War Iraqi vet retrieves a handgun (the
only item in his checked baggage which leads some to believe this might have
been terror not mental illness) from his checked baggage and proceeds to kill 5
people and wound 8 others before surrendering after running out of bullets; the
four black thugs who tortured a young white mentally challenged man are being
held in Chicago without bail; President-elect continues to waste capital by casting
doubt on intel concluding that the Russians were trying to influence the
election; the twitter wars between Vincente Fox and Trump continue unabated
over the payment of the wall Trump and his 62 million deplorables want built
(build the wall and then figure out on how Mexico will reimburse us—an idea
might be to impose a surtax on any money remitted to Mexican relatives by
illegal aliens); shootings continue unabated in Chicago with the total now 66
for the first week of 2017 and the first week not complete; Israel is withholding
its $6 million contribution to UN in protest to the Security Council vote to
condemn Israeli settlements (when does the U.S. follow suit with the billions
in contributes to the UN?) and ending on a good note Mardi Gras has opened in
New Orleans to chilly weather but no rain to be a wet blanket on the
partygoers.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music
link to John Lennon, factoids of interest for this day in history, a relevant
observation from Jo Brand, looking forward to avoiding to having to use the
Word of the Day “hoody-noody” to describe someone you have the misfortune not
to be able to avoid, blessed with a positive attitude and secure
in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events
like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet
can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great
price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me
for details.
1. International Programmers’ Day—this
is an observance that honors the creativity of computer programmers and their
contributions to our economy, culture and society or in the case of aging baby
boomers complications of trying to adapt to and understand new and innovative
devices loaded with technology many of us without young children or
grandchildren are clueless on how to use.
2. National Pass Gas Day—celebrated following National Bean Day on the 6th
of January to lessen the embarrassment of flatulence or in California to
protest Governor Brown’s war on methane emitted by dairy cows.
3.
Number One Song in 1981—celebrating
the number 1 song in 1981 on a run of 5 weeks in that position “(Just Like)
Starting Over”. Here is a link to John Lennon performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Op-uIUIktWY 4. Word of the Day—the word of the day is "hoddy-noddy" which means a fool or a simpleton which is what the architect of the ACA believed most Americans to be which is why the Democrats were able to pass this disaster which “knock on wood” the Congress and Trump will be able to repeal and replace.
5. America’s Sweetheart--celebrating
the birth on this day in 1957 if a liberal Blue and bemoaning it if you are a
Red of Katie Couric noted liberal and many say very biased anchorwoman, journalist
and writer who probably views almost all Reds especially President-elect Trump
as hoddy-noddies.
On this day in:
1. 1894 William Kennedy
Dickson received a patent for motion picture film to the delight of future
denizens of Hollywood.
2. 1920 the New York State
Assembly refused to seat 5 duly election representatives because they were
socialists.
3. 1927 transatlantic
phone service was established between New York City and London.
4. 1959 the U.S.
recognized Castro’s government in Cuba only to watch it confiscated land and
businesses owned by Americans in Cuba.
5. 2015 in another
chilling example of the fact that civilization is at war with radical Islam; Islamists
attacked the offices of Charlie Hebdo killing 12 and wounding 5. Sad day for
journalistic freedom but an example of what would happen if Sharia were imposed.
Reflections on bias in
journalism: “Anybody who has had
the pleasure of reading an article about themselves in the press knows that, on
the whole, there is a huge amount of inaccuracy, value judgment and the use of
a crowbar to insert editorial bias that reflects the current political leaning
of that particular paper.” Jo Brand, noted English comedian and writer. Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you
