Ridley’s Believe It Or Not For January 24, 2017 President Trump is on a roll toward his job creation goals—signed executive orders that approved Keystone XL (at least 10,000 high paying construction jobs) and Dakota Access Pipeline (8-12,000 high paying construction jobs), imposed a nonmilitary hiring freeze on federal employees, met with dozens of CEOs with message of invest here, hire here and reap the benefits of lower taxes and less regulations here (chief swamp denizens hopefully are listening because if you obstruct, your party will join the Whigs) and then with union leaders to huge accolades and applause (Pelosi and Schumer just as you are losing the blacks due to your plantation owner mentality, kiss your union support goodbye because your policies have killed jobs other that public parasite jobs); too early to predict but what we may be witnessing is a president who will go to the people, bypass the liberal biased mainstream media and with social media enlist their support for his agenda; the chief swamp denizen in the Senate for the Blues probably caved and we now in this very dangerous world have a Director for the CIA; in a parting f* you moment to Israel and the Reds, it was revealed today that President Obama before thankfully heading out the door released $221 million to the Palestinian authorities that had been subject to a Congressional hold which most presidents in the past have respected but not this one (Rachel Maddow after this stunt who is the anti-Semite?); in a typical bias moment when the media went ballistic over then candidate Trump’s remark on the Gold Star Muslim family that spoke at the Democratic Convention, a Gold Star widow and a Gold Star sister trying to attend an Inaugural Ball honoring Medal of Honor winners were physically assaulted by 75 anti-Trump protesting thugs, a news item that appeared only on Fox; in another how low can you go by the comment Chelsea Handler who tries to pass herself off as a comedian insults our new FLOTUS Melania Trump by claiming this very smart and intelligent women who speaks fluently five languages, including English “barely speaks English”; on the political front the DNC looking at the candidates running to become DNC chairman should give the Reds great reasons to be dancing in the streets from black Islamist anti-Semite Ellison to white Brown who views her role to “shut other white people down”; ending on a sad note through Monday 244 mostly blacks were shot by mostly blacks in Chicago with 43 fatalities and from Mayor Emanuel and the BLM nothing but the sounds of silence.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music link to Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting, factoids of interest for this day in history, an observation on procrastination by Steven Pressfield, looking forward to not being wabbit so you can just do it, blessed with a positive attitude and secure in the knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. Moebius Syndrome Awareness Day—creating awareness of and promoting research for congenital disease, fortunately rare, that results in babies being born with facial paralysis that prevents blinking, moving eyes from side to side or facial expressions.
2. National Just Do It Day—celebrating what many procrastinators detest and Nike coined as its winning slogan several years ago—overcome the inertia and fears of failure and just do it.
3. Number One Song in 1994—celebrating the number 1 song in 1994 on a run of 3 weeks in that position “All for Love” by the ad hoc trio of Bryan Adams, Rod Steward and Sting. Here is a link to their performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ofA3URC1wyk
4. Word of the Day—the word of the day is “wabbit” which is not how Elmer Fudd pronounces rabbit but rather in Scotland how someone describes a person like Hillary for a good part of her campaign who is exhausted or slightly unwell.
5. 4’9” of Pure Gold—celebrating the birth on this day in 1968 of Mary Lou Retton who became the first American woman to win the all around gold medal in gymnastics in the 1984 Olympics held in Los Angeles.
On this day in:
1. 1916 SCOTUS in the case of Brushaber v. Union Pacific Railroad Company declared the federal income tax to be constitutional, a ruling enabled by the passage of the 16th Amendment; but sadly our tax code has grown to the massive pile of pages that are totally ununderstandable, conflicting and confusing social experiment it is today.
2. 1961 in a real oops moment a B-52 carrying two H-bombs broke up near Goldsboro, North Carolina and the uranium core of one weapon was never found.
3. 1972 Japanese Army Sgt. Shoichi Yoiko was discovered hiding in the jungles of Guam where he had been hiding since the end of World War II, not knowing that the war was over and Japan had been defeated.
4. 1978 in a deadly sky is falling moment, a Soviet satellite Kosmos 954 powered by a nuclear reactor burned up after entering the Earth’s atmosphere spewing radioactive material over Canada’s Northwest Territories, only 1% of which was believed to have been recovered.
5. 2011 an Islamist suicide bomber detonated his suicide vest in the baggage claim area of Domodevodo International Airport outside of Moscow, killing 37 innocents and injuring 173 fortunate enough to be further away from the fanatic (Russia has a very large Muslim population and Russia’s relations with the Stans that were part of the Soviet Union leave a bit to be desired which means President Trump’s observation that is would be a good thing if the U.S. and Russia would be able to cooperate in the war against terror is on point).
Reflections on the disease of procrastination which is alive and well in sadly too many of us: “Turning pro is a mindset. If we are struggling with fear, self-sabotage, procrastination, self-doubt, etc., the problem is, we're thinking like amateurs. Amateurs don't show up. Amateurs crap out. Amateurs let adversity defeat them. The pro thinks differently. He shows up, he does his work, he keeps on truckin', no matter what.” Steven Pressfield, noted author Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you like them, retweet and follow me) and follow my blogs.
