Ridley’s
Believe It Or Not For January 21, 2017 Talk about a short honeymoon as
hundreds of cities are holding organized protest marches by women, BLM, leftists and
the LGBT community over President Trump ’s inauguration despite his call for
unity and to make America great again; MSNBC and ABC were quick to pounce on President
Trump’s speech as being “dark” and
anti-semitic (are you kidding me from the man who promised to eradicate radical
Islam? You be the judge http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/01/20/full-text-president-donald-trumps-inauguration-speech.html);
President Trump is already on the job
with a full head of steam meeting with staff at the CIA which because of
political posturing by Senators Schumer and Wyden blocking a confirmation vote
on President Trump’s selection for Director will not have a Director until
Monday (hope the jihadists around the world took the weekend off); at least
Mattis and Kelly have been confirmed as Defense Secretary with one dissenting
Blue vote (Kirsten Gillibrand) and Secretary of Homeland Security with eleven
dissenting Blue votes (some hope that there may be bipartisanship possibilities
in the Senate; the House Blues who skipped the Inauguration are a disgrace to
the nation and to Congress; slow day for shootings and killings in Chicago as
the total shot through Friday climbed to 193 with 35 fatalities; Italy which
has been inundated with refugees is stepping up deportation efforts.
As always, I hope you enjoy today’s holidays and observances, a music
link to Surface, factoids of interest for this day in history, an observation
on equality by Geoffrey Perret, looking forward to enjoying a day that is blessed

knowledge that if you want to find a gift for any memorable events like
birthdays, weddings, or anniversaries, you know that the Alaskanpoet can
provide you with a unique customized poem at a great price tailored
to the event and the recipient. You need only contact me for details.
1. National Hugging
Day—celebrating
an act that usually lifts the spirits of anyone thanks to Kevin Zaborney who
created the observance on January 21, 1986 in Clio, Michigan to overcome
American reluctance to exhibit affection in public.
2. National One Liner Day—celebrating that
classic form of humor the one liner joke.
3. Number One Song
in 1991—celebrating
the number 1 song in 1991 on a run of 3 weeks in that position “The First Time”
by Surface. Here is a link to the band performing the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Sz2HOAb54w
4. Word of the Day—the word of the
day is “thalassic ” which means relating to the sea.
5. Lady Justice
Needs to Be Blind—celebrating or bemoaning the birth on this day in 1951 of the most
political Attorney General ever to occupy the office Eric Holder who viewed his
job primarily protect President Obama, not to dispense justice.
On this day in:
1. 1789 the first American novel The Power of Sympathy or the Triumph of Nature Founded in Truth was
published in Boston.
2. 1907 the New York City Council passed the Sullivan Ordinance making it illegal for
women to smoke in public but the legislation was vetoed by the mayor.
3. 1968 the Battle of Khe Sanh, one of the most publicized and
controversial battles of the Vietnam War began.
4. 1968 a B-52 bomber crashed near Thule, Greenland
contaminating the area when its nuclear bombs ruptured; in a very frightening
thought of nuclear bomb was never recovered.
5. 1999 the U.S. Coast Guard intercepted a ship carrying almost
five tons of cocaine.
Reflections on unequal treatment based on gender: “Before the First
World War women were arrested for smoking cigarettes in public, for using
profanity, for appearing on the beach without stockings, for driving a car
without a man beside them or for wearing outlandish attire like shorts.”Geoffrey Perret, noted English author who focuses on
American history. His observation could
easily be applied to feudal places like Saudi Arabia Please enjoy the poems on events of interest on my twitter account below (if you
